Hello, we made it through the sea trial and are scheduled for engine survey next week. She has the 300 hp cummins 6BTA5.9-M2
with 700 hours. We have never owned a diesel boat before and our last boat was a 32' Doral so we are looking for any suggestions on what to look for and how to interpret the survey results. Thanks in advance for any input.

Survey

What part of the world does the boat lie in now? Salt, fresh whats the details

Thanks for asking

As far as I know she has been in the Sacramento Delta up until a month ago when she was brought to the Brokers docks in Alameda, CA.

Survey

Given the age of the vessel, a through survey of the engines and trannyis is essential. This survey is generally not perfomred by the Hull Surveyor. Perhaps Frank Webster would have a check off list for a marine surveyor that might be useful?

Make sure all factory recalls have been performed on the engines. Call the MFG with the engine #'s to get the skinny.

If there is a genny, have that surveyed as well.

Some states have consumer protection laws which make disclosure of serious clamites a requirement as well. Like being sunk, fire damaged, if the engine or marine gear serial numbers vary from original delivery.

If the boat smells like moldy wood ... but its dry inside ... walk away.
