I was wondering if anyone could tell me where the Vacuflush vents are located on a 2000 SR 400 Sedan Bridge? I am getting odors from behind the galley cabinets and under the port side guest stateroom bed. Thought I would try replacing the filters first.

Thanks!

You probably have to replace the charcoal filter that is attached to the vent tube. Mine is located above and a bit outboard of the port engine. It is a little difficult to get to but it is not all that hard to do. I bought my replacement filter at West Marine. Some of the guys have made them out of PVC pipe and aquarium charcoal. Way cheaper.

From where your odor is coming from it sounds like you make have a leak on one of your pumps. You can either access from the forward comaprtment in front of the berth or through the flooor in the prot stateroom under the bunk. Had to replace a pump last year and they are difficult to get to.

I'd agree with the above post. The vacuum pump area is accessed under the inner buck floor and has it's own bilge pump. I would wash and dry this area and look for leaks. The kitchen odor could be the shower/sink sump. My charcoal filter is on top of the rear of the holding tank and is fairly easy to access. Good luck.

I just experienced this myself. I replaced the waste vent filter in the bilge but it did not completely eliminate the odor although it did seem to improve it. Maybe wishful thinking. The real culprit was the showers/sinks/galley/AC sump in the companionway. I cleaned it and the odor has been eliminated. I think I'm going to have to clean it every few weeks. It was awful (in 4 weeks).

Does anyone else have suggestions how to keep this cleaner? Is there a good additive to pour down the drains that will delay the frequency of the cleaning?

I have had the same issue with odors originating in the sump box. Every few weeks I remove the cover, sanitize with bleach, and clean the sides and pump area with a brush. I also make sure not to put any food particles down the galley drain. I wish that the sink drained to the outside of the boat rather than the shower sump.

Do ou happen to know if there is only one vent charcoal filter for both heads? Or is there a vent filter for each? Thanks!

I was wondering if it would be ok to put bleach in the sump box. No issues I assume?

There is only one and it is mounted on the top of your waste holding tank. Easy to change. I purchased mine here: http://www.trioniccorp.com/holding-tank-vent-filters.html

Now I make my own, took the old one and sawed it in half. Went to Home Depot or equivalent and purchased PVC male/female pieces, glued to the 2 centers and now the 2 halves screw together. Adjusted overall length to match old exactly (don't ask why I know that), dumped out old charcoal and replaced with charcoal from PetSmart or equivalent aquarium supplier. Now I have a set of two and change them every year or two at very little cost.

Pouring bleach down the drains seems like a good idea although I would think very little would suffice. I am also thinking about re-routing galley sink drain to go straight overboard. It doesn't look like it would be too difficult.

None yet. An occasional cleaning with bleach does a great job of eliminating odors and keeping the water in the sump clear. I typically add it directly to the sump as I am unsure if bleach will have any adverse conditions on the drain lines, fittings, etc.
