Capacity depends on what the weight is made from and the bottom conditions. A concrete block on land weighing 400# has an effective weight I believe on the order of 300#. A steel mushroom, or pointed block will give closer to a 1:1 relationship. If it is a mushroom, make sure stem of mushroom won't poke a hole in your hull at low tide. In some locations you may not be able to use mushrooms because of damage to neighboring boats. If it is a muddy bottom, weight is less significant because over time it will sink into the bottom. On hard bottoms weight is key especially if there are tides and currents involved

As an FYI, I have a 1600# granite block in the bow and a 1200# block on the stern for our 280. I had a 350# block in the stern but it kept shifting during the high summer tides and during storm surges.
