Adding an auto pilot to my 1995 400 express.
I have a Raymarine system ready to go..

If you have (or had) a 400 EC please tell me where the various equip. is mounted so, I can do a factory looking install..

Type I drive unit?....rear port side maybe?
Core pack?......got to be beneath the wheel to the left maybe?
Compass unit?...... Under the salon seating?
The display I can figure out a spot in the dash.

Thanks gang,

Mark.

Mark,
I added Raymarine Smart pilot quite some time ago to my 400EC. Type 1 drive. I mounted it to the stringer on the starboard side behind the muffler for the gen. The rudder indicator is mounted to plates I fabricated to the rudder bar and the tiller arm. The Core pack is mounted behind the dash panel. Be careful not to use long screws as that panel is thin. Long screws will go into your upholstery in the cabin!! The compass is mounted on the bulkhead under the top step in the cabin. I added the Teleflex Seastar power assist unit 2 seasons ago. It now steers like a car. One finger to turn the wheel. I have diesels and the torque over the rudders made it hard to steer before. FYI I have owned 2 400EC's so I know the boat well. First one was a 93 that I bought in 96, and my current 99 I have owned since 2001

Good luck on the install!

Thanks Al,

I didn't think of putting the compass under the step.
That should work out well..

Thanks again,

Mark.

Mark, Garmin has a very good you tube video on how to install a ghp20. I know yours is not the same but the concepts are. Its a two part series and i found it very helpfull. Go to you tube and type in garmin GHP20 installation.
I think that will bring it up.
Good luck, JC

Thanks,
I'm wondering if I'll need to add the check valves or not in the system.
This would be easy if I can see one done already.

X-10 Autopilot behind the E-80 Multifunction display mounted on a board screwed in via aluminum angle brackets to achieve a vertical mount.
Also, can see my 240 VHF mounted next to the X-10 and the back of E-80.

Rudder reference is here. Though not necessary for the X-10, the instructions say it will steer better at slow speed with it.
