Hi Folks. I am at a dilema right now. The previous owner of my 400 db is offering me his 62 Neptunus flybridge . My SR is a yr 2000 which cost me around 260k, while the Neptunus is a '97. She has 3406E's with 2,500 hours, brand new genny, bnew cruise air chilled water AC, bnew windlass, etc... In short she was refurbished 2 years ago. He is asking 620k for her. Is it a wise decision for me to go to the neptunus? Is the price right or over? I hardly ever heard of this brand of boats. I just love the wide spacious interior of the salon. I need your advices on these. Thanks in advance.

What would be the motive for moving up? Are you unhappy with your 400 or do you just want a bigger boat? (Don't we all!)

I don't know about the financial end of the deal but is he going to take the 400 on trade? Are you going to be a two boat owner until you sell the 400?

The logistics of boating in a 62' boat change considerably from boating in a 40'er. Even if you can get a slip moorage is more expensive. Fuel costs will go up. Insurance costs will go up as will the time/cost of keeping the boat properly maintained.

That all being said; I have 3406C's in my boat and love 'em. They're smooth and quiet and don't smoke and Cats run forever.

For what its worth, I was docked next to Neptunus 55 Express at BIH last fall and owner invited us over for a drink. It was a pretty superficial look but, based on what I saw, she looked like a well-built boat. Quality hardware, nice finishes on cabinetry and soft goods, good layout. Owner was Canadian on his way down to FL for the winter. He spoke highly of the boat in all regards. Thas all I know.

Not sure what the question is.

Are you asking should you move from a 40 to 65 ft boat?

Are you asking would you be happy with a Neptunus?

etc.

Guess if you could help with a little bit more pointed questions, there may be people who could chime in. I have no knowledge of Neptunus.

Neptunus is a Canadian built yacht. We see a few around here. I know Paul on Jackie JV looked at a few when he decided on his 560.

The base on a 62' (by '97 standards) would be a lot more than $1.5mm. I'd still say though that there would have to be some wiggle room on that price.

Neptunus is a quality Canadian built boat, manufactured in Southern Ontario. Great designs. Solid build. A quasi-bespoke manufacturer.

The 3406e is one of Caterpillar's most robust engines, having powered nearly a third of the on-highway transport trucks, while Cat was in that business (known there as a C-15). One of our divisions would have supplied those particular engines. The engines can definitely support a lot more than 2500 hrs, it really comes down to how they were maintained.

good luck with your choice!

Paul

Gofirstclass, I find the 400 db small, slow, and under powered. I am going to sell the 400 db before buying the neptunus. Where I live there are no slips for marinas. I just moor my boat in the city port. Whats the difference between 3406C's and 3406E's? I am told it gives out 750 hp. Is this enough hp for a big boat? How are neptunus compared to Sea Ray's? Thanks again for your reply.

FootballFun, I want to know if neptunus are as good as SR boats. Also if it would be wise to go from a 2000 to an older boat which is a 1997. Thanks.

Paul, thank you for your reply. We live in the Philippines where it takes an arm and a leg to get boats over here. I am told that the port engine took a brand new head. I have not yet asked for the reason for it. So what made you decide to choose a SR over the neptunus Paul?

I wonder how GFC would have any idea about this question. I wonder if someone here said "Neptunus is a far superior boat to any Sea Ray ever built" if that
would be all you need to hear to pull the trigger on it. ?

Seems to me, if your a potential buyer, YOU should be the one who determines if the Neptunus is better for your needs than a Sea Ray. Base your decision on
what a full survey tells you, what you have observed in your inspection and sea trial of the boat, and how it stacks up against other boats of that size, configuration
and vintage. From there, it should be possible for you to make an intelligent decision if the boat is right for you, or not.
