1997 400DB. Why are there 2 potable fresh water pumps? Each with a switch on the electrical panel,12V side? Is the duplication so that you use 1 and save the 2nd for back-up? Someone told me I should re-plumb a single new variable pump and eliminate the accumulator....any thoughts? I have installed a new accumulator and it evidently was not attached to it's mount securely and is leaking. As some of you know it take a trained monkey with long arms to get at the accumulator ( I have to remove an 8D start battery that I installed up on the ledge and relocated the oil change system to make room....and then find someone who can crawl under the exhaust system while laying on the existing fresh water pumps). So...I'm asking for input on using a new variable speed pump and completely eliminating that accumulator.. Why 2 pumps? Need for accumulator . Eliminate problem with new Variable speed pump. Thanks

Six of one, half dozen of the other. I prefer a standard pump with accumulator, others like the variable. An accumulator system ( w/ the precharge pressure set 2 -3 psi below cut in press) will cycle the pump on/off on a pressure switch, simple effective system, been around for years. Variable system will cycle the system to maintain a steady pressure based on a flow switch. In an accumulator system you'll notice slight variances in water pressure as the system bleeds down then cycles back on, (each size of accumulator will have a rating of how many gallons it will bleed down). A variable system will be smoother but will cycle the pump on, and run continously each and every time any tap is turned on. Different way of doing same thing. YMMV
