So easy to pop out, I wouldn’t bother trying to paint on the boat.. I pulled mine off this afternoon after reading this thread... scuffed & sprayed ... done looks great

I never tried to pull it.... I painted in-place...Much better idea to remove it.

RanDom, hope I helped, it seemed like a pita when I first looked at it but was really not hard. For $20 and some time, I wish I would have done sooner. Thank Frank W for the heads up on how to get the damn thing off.
