40 Cent Increase In Gas Tax Proposed

Am I missing something? At every fuel dock I have ever vistited they sell red dyed fuel. This fuel is sold free of Federal highway tax.

That isn't a bad idea...DYED GASOLINE for marine use nationwide....I wonder if BoatUS has pursued this?

Re: 40 percent increase in gas tax iproposed

OK, so CT pays 25 cents per gallon and WA is at 36 cents per gallon. What was your point?

BTW, our tax on gas goes up automatically (9.5 cents per gallon increase starting July 1, 2005)... and they are not done yet...

Geez... was just posting a link to compare all states...

I only buy about 20-30 gallons of gasoline per year for non-highway use for the dinghy, so I never really thought about the federal tax on it. But, can't you file IRS form 4136 and get a refund of all federal tax paid for "off-road" use?

I've not heard of form 4136, but I am going to look into it now!

I'm also going to check with our marina, where I buy 95% of my boat gas, to see what taxes are imposed at their pump. I presume there is federal, state, and local taxes.
