4 Blade Vs 3 blade

That's great info. In addition to the benefit of planing out faster that I've mentioned would be nice, would also be to stay on plane at lower speeds. I've been in some rough seas a couple times a year or so and being able to stay on plane with full drive trim in and full tabs down going as slow as possible would sure also be nice. This seems promising...

Did anyone get to try new props this weekend? Mine are on order, looking forward to hearing results w/ 4 blade on 28-30 footers. thx Rob

Not yet. I'm anxious to get in the water but there are still some repairs that need buttoned up before I get there.

Soon.... Soon....

my 4 blades are arriving tomorrow. Hopefully in on sunday with some reviews after quick shakedown up river. Anyone else test theirs?? Rob

Hill marine 4 blade SS. they made the Counter Rotation for me not stock. 300 per. 14.25 x 17. had 19 3 blade SS on their that needed some ding repairs. Hopefully little better performance. 3blades weren't bad but fine line keeping it on plane at lower speeds and a little difficult planing w/ a large crew on board. Just installed Seablaze 3 lights in blue tonight as well. Should be dry (4200) tomorrow for sunday splash.

Sounds sweet. Take some pictures for us.

I have some 14x18 4 blades sitting in my garage patiently waiting. My 3 blades needed cleaned up and I couldn't see spending 2/3 of the price of the new set on the old props. I'm looking to get out of the hole a little easier.

Would love to try a 4 blade on my Bravo 2 but 700 bucks is a bit steep
Please keep us posted

You've described all of the issues I have trouble with, so I can't wait to hear your first-look results with the new props. $300/ea. isn't too bad I guess.

Results are in on new Prop performance. Although I have only run it on the freshwater river I dock my boat in, the top speed is the same and may go a bit higher in salt @40mph.(short run so again data may change slightly. RPMs were 4300 or so, stayed about the same. But the raw power getting out of the hole and mid-range accelleration is a LOT better. Only had 2 people on board with 3/4 fuel and full water. Holds plane at lower RPM, 2600. No need to touch tabs on start up for quick planing. Attitude of boat was much different. Stern was high/bow lower which I would assume better fuel, the other main goal for the switch. Felt like different boat. The 2 times I tested it were with 2 different people and both could not believe that performance from a 30 cruiser.
Cant wait to test in ocean, due to the issues going on in Boston currently I didn't want to go into harbor yesterday. Security was very high as there was a bomb scare downtown and I am sure CG was everywhere.
Hill Marine was the prop co. I purchased with if you look at previous posts you will see old data etc.
I know some of you guys were anxious to hear results. Rob

Wow. Amazing numbers.

92 300DA w/5.7ls?

Looks like he had good luck! Now we need to find out what size replaces ours in a 4 blade! I'm ready to pull the trigger!

I recently replaced a PowerTech SS 17.25 x 23p 3-blade propeller with a Hill Marine SS 18.25 x 22p 4-blade propeller on a 250DA with a single 5.7l - Bravo 2 and my results can be described exactly as Wakeup 19 does. A very impressive upgrade. I had looked at the Hill Marine website and didn't think that the upgrade would warrant a $700 investment. I happened to find a new one on eBay for about half that but now I wish that I hadn't waited so long to do it.

Wonder if we could work out a group by discount price even though we need different sizes and pitches... Thoughts? I would pony up for two for my bravo II drives.

I too was contemplating "upgrading" to a 4 blade prop for the lower rpm and lower plane speed advantages. Problem is my boat is still in storage and I have not owned it long enough to record the rpms for certain speeds, WOT, top speed, etc. nor do I even know what prop I have on there now other than it is a SS 3 blade (Mirage maybe?). So my question is, if I want to start researching by speaking to some of the mentioned companies, will they be able to help me based on size of my boat and motor, or are those other stats more useful in determining the best prop for my applications?

True North,
You can get a "original configuration" update from the link below on Sea Rays website. You click your model year and look at the chart. It gives you engine/outdirve combinations and the original size/pitch for that package.
