4.3l mercrusier Think it is an Alpha one
Hi All,

I am doing some engine work on a 1989 Sea Ray 200 cuddy with 4.3l 2bbl carb. Noticed fuel pump has line in/line out and extra hose that goes from pump and is sitting on intake manifold not connected to anything. Checked manuals and on line and cannot find anything about a 3rd hose on the fuel pump.

Has anyone else see this extra hose and do you know where it supposed to go?

Thanks,

Rick

Is it a transparent hose?

That should go to your carburetor. It is a line that lets fuel leaking from the diaphragm in your fuel pump to return to the carb instead of going into the oil pan. One of the differences between a marine fuel pump and an automotive pump is a dual diaphragm with this feature. The line should be clear so you can see if there is fuel in there indicating a problem with your pump.

Yes it is transparent, for the most part. It is old and dirty. If need to see inside will have to replace.

Than for the reply

Hello and thank you for taking the time to reply to my question. I will check around the carb for the fitting the hose should attach to. Is this hose listed in any diagrams?

The hose is supposed to be connected to a small metal fitting near the top front of the carb. If the carb does not have the fitting then maybe someone replaced the original marine carb with an automotive one. If that's the case you will need to get a marine carb installed to comply with coast guard safety standards.

I don't know when that requirement came about but mine doesn't have that tube on either engine.
