All,

Had an interesting problem over the weekend. Cruising along nicely, the port engine just quit, cold turkey.

Tried restarting and it started find and idled fine, but once I put some power in to get up on plane, it quit.

Checked for any obvious things that I could, something in the prop, fluid leak, oil, gas or whatever.... nothing.

Tried again, same thing. Got to destination for the night (short single engine run), and tried again the next day.... same thing.

After I got home, got the book out to troubleshoot. Possibilities: fuel filter (changed), air filter (cleaned) dirty or water in fuel (other engine runs off same tank and no indication of contaminated fuel. Could be a sensor so I pulled the oil pressure sensor.

Started up and ran fine, got up on plane just fine with sensor disconnected. Reconnected the sensor and still ran fine.

So, I'm confused as to what fixed it, or if it's even fixed and a temporary fix or an intermittent problem.

Could also be fuel, but fuel pumps seem to work ok. Need to check the fuel pressure.

One thing, when I changed the fuel filter, it wasn't full of fuel which is not normal, was down about 1/3.

So, still confused, ideas?

Well the oil pressure sensor is there to just off the fuel pump if there is no oil pressure. Usually they just fail, the engine stops and won't start. The way it works, is when you are cranking the engine the start circuit powers the fuel pump, once the engine starts, the power to the fuel pump is supplied through the oil pressure sensor circuit. My guess is you had a bad connection at the pressure sensor and disconnecting / reconnecting it cleaned up the bad connection. I would check the connections again and clean them up good. You could also test the sensor with a volt meter - should be getting 12v on the fuel pump side.

Hmmm...I know a guy that had same boat with same problem.
Did you buy the boat locally?
I remember it doing the same thing to him a couple of times and I was on it when it quit once.

Pretty sure it was a fuel pump issue.
