3X4 or 4X4 props

What boat info I have shows 2.2:1 B3 drive with 20 pitch props on that boat. He should be hitting low 40's mph. He's reaching WOT rpm, even a little over. Sounds like a prop issue to me, outa shape, maybe poorly reconditioned.

Got the serial number on the drive unit. Ratio is 1:50. Thinking i may need a little more cup or a big block LOL

This is what would have been "standard" from Sea Ray - I looked at model years 2002, 2003 and 2004 - all of them listed the ratio as 2.2:1.

The thing is, though, if you go up in pitch, you're going to lose RPM. So, often times, the speed is a wash. But, you will definitely see a difference in a slower "hole shot" by going to a higher pitched prop set.

"IF" nothing else is amiss, you'd be OK to go to 22", since you're just a tad over WOT spec. But really, if you're primarily after better planing speed, this is not going to help. It's going to make it worse. Based on what you've said so far, my best recommendation would be to leave it as is and save your money. I'm sure you can put the money towards something else... after all, it is a BOAT!

Mercruiser says about 8% better midrange performance for the 4x3 sets vs the older 3x3 set. Top end more or less the same. Holeshot a bit better.

But once i haul mine out - and put the new 4x3's on I'll report back. I got them to lower my cruise RPM's. If I can lower them 200-400 RPM that will do wonders for the noise. But now my lowest cruise is around 3300 RPM without deploying trim tabs.
