There is some interest in our boat and I am curious about the 390 Motor Yacht with Cummins diesels. We are Cal Delta boaters (shallow) and are considering going to a smaller boat for that reason. Anyone have experience or opinions about how this boat handles compared to its sedan bridge sisters? Our 480 is the best handling boat I have ever driven.

I know of one at the Detroit Yacht Club that might be available- Freshwater & with Cummins Power-

Why are you selling....i dont want to speak for others, but that boat will be more difficult to dock than your 48

The aft cabin boats are popular here because there is a lot of room built into a small boat. I was curious about how they handle. My gut tells me they would not handle as well as what we have. I was hoping to here from people who have handled them. I doubt that any buyer, in this market, would give us what the boat is worth. The point is probably moot.

Bill, I own a 2008 40 MY which is pretty much identical to the 390. I don't have any experience with sedan bridge boats so I can't provide that comparison but I do find that this boat handles much better than either of the 2 motor yachts I have previously owned. The lower-than-typical bridge on the main deck makes a big difference in how she reacts to the wind. The aft sail area can still be a problem but I've found that opening up the aft canvas pretty much allows me to keep it under reasonable control.

Not to upset anybody here but there is a big difference in the way they handle. The 480 and the 390 are 2 totally different animals. I agree the 480 is one of my favorite boats to run but when I ran a 390 I disliked it very much.

Although, I love to be up high on a bridge so its all relative.

Very bow high. Hold onto those drinks. Manufacturer photo hides that fact.

In my one year of owning the 40 MY, which is essentially the same boat as the 390, I have not even considered that it might have an excessively high planing angle but that may be because most of my experience is with aft-cabins which may be inherently a little on the high side compared to other boat configurations because of weight distribution aft. If anything, I would say mine rides lower at the bow than my earlier motoryachts. She does need trimming at lower planing speeds but progressively less the closer I get to WOT. I have certainly not experienced anything falling over because of it.
