i have another question on my 2005 390 sundancer. where are the ac filters and how do i get to them for cleaning?

For the state room filter you need to raise the aft end of the bed. You will see a cover that you can remove. At point you will see the AC unit. If you look infront of the coils you will see the filter. Pull it out and clean with mild soapy water.

For the cabin AC unit, the one of the filters is under the stairs. You will find four white plastic tabs in the grill that hold the grill in place. Using a small flathead screw driver, slide the tabs to the right (I think) and the grill will come out and you will then see the first filter for the cabin. The cabin AC unit has a screen just like the one in the state room. However, you have to remove the fridge to get to it .

You may have to be either small or something of a contortionist to do it but you can reach the main salon A/C filter by reaching under the stairs after removing the grill. It's a stretch but I'm 6' 1" 210 lbs. and I can do it. PITA location but beats removing the fridge!

I looked up front and found the filter but can't just pull it out. It appears that there are 3screws on each side that need to be removed and a Phillips screwdriver won't do it. On the filter under the stairs, I couldn't figure out how to remove the grill. Any ideas.

Just fiddle a bit with the white tabs that secure the grill in place. The grill will come off and then you can remove and clean the wire mesh and like a poster said above....wedge yourself right under the stair and the filter at the exchanger is reachable. Remove and clean it. It is a pain in the A but doable.

As to the master state room...there should be nothing securing the plastic filament(filter)...it should slide ride out from the top.

Shoot a pic if you can....I have the same boat and regularly clean both.

For the salon ac, you need to remove the fridge to get to the filter that sits in front of the evaporator coil. Cleaning the aluminum filter under the steps is not enough. Also a good time to check the condition of the pan as the pans rust out and leak, causing a bad smell in the cabin. The fridge comes right out after removing the 8 srews in the face plate. Very easy job really just be careful pulling it out. Also put a water hose into the pan discharge hose to clean-out any gunk in there.

Just a tip. Throw some cardboard down on the floor when you pull out the fridge. When you pull it out it will set on the cardboard Vs. your carpets.

For the salon AC, not everyone needs to remove the fridge if you can reach from the inlet grill side. Not a reach everyone can make though...I happen to be tall and can get to the filter right at the exchanger coils. It is also a great idea to check the condition of the condensate pan...poor design from the get-go as this pan tends to rust and subsequently also leave rust stains at the thru hull. To make this inspection, one will have to remove the fridge.

To remove the fridge on my 390 required me to remove the first stair tread in order to slide the fridge out...not a big deal...just a necessary step I had to take before removing the fridge.

If anyone interested, I replaced the stock WAECO fridge & freezer with a pair of Isotherms. Relatively easy fit but not without some cabinet trim work.

I still need help. I can't figure out the white tabs on the filter under the stairs. Tried everything. Any specific instructions?

The white tabs slide either left or right to release the grill. Try all possibilities.

Pull the tabs inward to release the tangs that hold the first grill in place. Accessing the filter from here is near impossible but, as some one said, they were tall and could do it. We pull the fridge. A bit of work but, you can clean and replace.

Take a knife and slide the white tabs to the side. This will release the grill. Your grill may just be a bit 'stuck' making it seem the white tabs don't slide but I assure you, all 4 tabs move side to side thereby releasing the grill.

As to access, I'm 6'2" and it's all I got to reach the filter screen but doable. Removing the fridge is certainly the more comfortable way but more involved time wise. Not difficult to do though and definitely provides all the access needed to inspect your AC system.
