380 bahamas

HI,
We live in Freeport. Closest hop to the Bahamas (other than Bimini) is the Palm Beach to West End GBI leg. About 60 NM. Easy to do as long as the Gulf Stream is behaving properly.
Cross over on a day with Southerly or SE winds below 15Kt and wave height below 4 feet and it will be a breeze. Do not attempt a crossing with Northerly winds as the Gulf Stream gets nasty.
I've crossed from Freeport to Florida over 10 times without problem. Get a copy of the cruising guide and you can have a great trip.
If you have any specific questions, ask me directly; I'm happy to help.

We go to Alaska from the Vancouver area each year in our boat Mid April to end of June. We normally put on 2000 knots. We fuel when we can but the boat will go 300 knots at 6 knots per hour. At 8 knots 200 knots at 16 knots per hour 100 knots. We cross open water up to 60 miles in some areas and waves can be 3 to 10 feet. If the tops blow off the waves you need to get out of the area as quickly as you can. At 8 to 10 knots the boat will handle 6 foot waves as it pushes the stern into the water at 6 knots it is hard going as it will not stear well. We cross early and try to finish before the afternoon winds come up. Make sure you wear your PFDs. We have a water proof box with GPS, flairs, VHF radio, flash light, tose line and small sea anchor ready to grab if the boat sinks. We have a sat phone on the boat as the VHF does not always work in some areas. Make sure all items in the boat are secure before you start as there is no time to secure itemsin rough water. Weput all counter stuff in the sinks or on the floor and make sure no items will move in the engine room. Good luck.
