38 and 390 DA Transom Hatch Support

Got the boat with one 40lbs gas spring on each hatch. The hatch would not stay open. Replaced with new 40lbs gas spring. The hatch would not stay open. Each hatch with the one spring did not close squarely but did latch closed. Removed the springs and the hatches close perfectly. Saw that there were holes for a second spring on both hatches. Installed two springs on the port side hatch. Held the hatch open firmly and the correct amount of pressure to close. Appeared that two gas spring was the answer. However with two spring the hatch does not close and latch correctly. The hatch appears to be pushed down by the springs in the closed position and as a result hits the bottom of the opening and does not close.

Anyone else seen this issue and if so how has it been addressed?

Rob, I purchased my 38DA new in 2007. It came with two gas struts on each of the transom locker doors. I had a friend who purchased a 2006 38DA new and the locker doors did not close correctly from the factory. The dealer had to correct the fitment of both doors.

Any idea what they did to correct it?
