Does anyone know if there are any issues with the 1998 370 Sun Dancers with 7.4`s? It was a westerbeke generator in it also.

Thank you in advance.

Yes, there were major issues with water ingestion on the 7.4's of this vintage, a topic that has been well covered on this site, search the subject.

I tried searching but am not finding anything. What was the cure to the problem, or isn`t there any?

well i found it. the muffers and the risers are all that is needed to cure the problem?

Generally yes from the endless discussions I have been envolved with regarding this subject for about 10 years now I would say that the combination of the water lift mufflers and the 6" risers seams to be OK, not that you won't still find boats out there that do not have the mufflers. What you will find is that quite a number of 98 and 99 370's will be listed with new or remanufactured engines, which tells you the trouble folks ran into. My boat has the older Gen V engines, and the original 3" risers and log style mufflers and I have never had a problem in 5 years of ownership.

I second that.....I had 3" blocks/risers and log muffs........never had any problems.......I just changed to 6" blocks.....being I was doing risers and manifolds this season....I went for the 6" blocks......just for piece of mind !

Oh yea on a 19,000 lb boat changing out those cast iron manifolds will really make a difference.

Well thanks for all the information, I will be taking the first look at the boat today. Is there any other issues with this boat? Thanks again.

Well I toured the boat yesterday and the exhaust retrofit, so to speak, hasn`t been done. There are 500 hours on the original engines. The engines do have a closed cooling system, but i don`t remember if it is a full or half system, if it matters. Would if be of any benefit to install the mufflers now? Should the exhaust manifolds be pulled on a survey? Or should i just walk away and save myself some head aches?

If I were a buyer in todays market I would be picky as hell. There are tons of great boats out there at killer prices.

It has center riser maniflods with 3" spacer blocks. I`m thinking 139.900 is on the high side even tho the boat is well equiped.
