36 Sedan Bridge Battery Issues/Questions

Do you get Fullriver batteries in the US. If so, the HC105 or HC110 at least rivals the Odessey batteries specs at a cheaper price.....at least here in Oz. No experience with them personally although Fullriver batteries have a good following here in Oz.

Thanks. I have found these, the cost savings isn't much and I think I'm going with either Odyssey or Lifeline. The specs between these two are pretty comparable with the exception of Lifeline's low Cold Cranking Amps rating of 600 vs Odyssey's 1150. Then again, how important are CCAs in CA? I know Lifelines are used in military applications, so they are at least mil-spec. Any thoughts, given a comparable price for each?

Cold Cranking Amps are very important. They give you a common reference to compare batteries. A battery with higher CCA is going to have more cranking amps at higher temperatures also. If you have thrusters on your boat, the cranking amp capacity is critical to the performance of the thrusters. Since these batteries are also used as deep cycle, the 20 hour amp hour rating is also important. The best battery choice will have high CCA and a high AH rating. The Lifeline batteries have outstanding specifications in regards to AH, but the CCA rating is pretty low. The Odyssey batteries have top CCA ratings and average AH.

Thanks Blue! I'm seeing the same thing! The bow thrusters are on a different set of batteries, so these will just be used for house and starting. I loved the Odysseys I had, but I always thought Lifelines were the best of the best. Looking at the specs, they don't look great at all in terms of CCAs. Surprising!

I agree with Blue. As good as the Lifelines are they are not a true dual purpose battery - if we had separate house and start banks then I would recommend the Lifelines in the house bank - but that is not the case. Accordingly, I would go the Odysseys in your case. I mentioned the Full Rivers earlier because they has similar specs to the Odysseys but are nearly half the price here in Oz.

I would also suggest you look at your battery bank wiring if they are still wired like in post 14. Most battery manufacturers recommend that you have your pos and neg coming of each end of the bank i.e. different batteries in the bank - you have them coming off the same battery in each bank. You just need to spin either your pos or neg cables around the other way for each bank.

The first (lengthy) post following link is about installing a battery charger but includes comments in relation to correct battery wiring:

Wow! I had no idea! They came wired from the factory like this. I'm not sure what the story is. Maybe they were installed by Marine Max incorrectly. I hope there is adequate slack in the cable so that I can wire them correctly.

I pulled the plug on 2 of the Odysseus from Autoplicity today, and I understand they ship directly from the factory. If all goes well, I will order the other 2 that I need. Just under $350 landed after tax - the best price I found. Pricey, but 6 years of solid, reliable, no maintenance lifespan.

As always, thanks for all of your input!

First 2 arrived from CA in one day. I was worried about Autoplicity, but they came through so I'm going to order the other 2 I need.

So I waited and waited for the second two batteries from Autoplicity. After a week I called them to get a tracking number because, again, they didn't provide one. They informed me that they cancelled the order the day after I ordered due to lack of availability. I called West Coast Batteries (where the first two were drop shipped from), they were indeed available, and they shipped them out the same day. WARNING: STAY AWAY FROM AUTOPLICITY!

I find Costco a good place for beep cycle batteries and you get lunch for $1.50. Plus they give you $10 when you bring back your old battery.
