My 05 350 Mag Mpi 300 hours on a rebuilt cut out at 3700 rpms like I turned the key off. The motor hiccupped one time but kept on running smooth. And after a while it just shut off and would not restart. Got towed back to the dock and started to check things over.
I managed to get it started by unplugging the CFM and plugging it back in. CFM was changed along with 8 fuel injectors in 2018 due to paint chips in the old CFM.

Now the engine would start and stumble. I had a mechanic come down and he said it was a fuel issue. I added dry gas to the 75 gallons of gas I had in the tank. Along with a can of Sea Foam. He also had me change the Cam position sensor in the distributor I also changed the cap and rotor. Now the motor starts right up. Runs smooth and steady 650 at idle. But I have a strong smell of fuel.
I tried to take it for a run. As I throttle up the motor rumbles a little and will not go above 2800 RPMs.

Update:
It turns out the cam shaft position sensor was the problem. Changed it out and all is good.

Good to see the solution, but do you mean "Crank Shaft Position Sensor"? Not sure if your engine would have a "Cam" shaft sensor.

This is the part number that I replaced
