I have a question...The waste cap on my new boat (2008 340 sundancer) is not connected with a chain...when I complained to the dealer they said they dont do that anymore as the pump out wont be able to seal correctly. I have the macerator option, but dont intend on using it often, ( I dont go out far enough yet).

I just traded a 2006 290 Sundancer that had a chain. Is this a valid on this model, or is there a reason why? Why would anyone want to hold a crap cap in their hands during pump out...dont you need 2 hands doing that?

Also if you have a 340 Sundancer does yours have the chain?

Please let me know as I told the dealer I was checking here!

On my 240 their is no chain

Nope no chain here either. Years and Years ago you used to have to hold the hose in the fitting to keep suction. Man that was fun!! Now they have the screw on fitting and the hose latches onto that and sucks, literally no hands needed. My 1990 280 did not have a chain either. I have not (yet) had any holding tank residue on my cap to prevent me from holding it or setting it down somewhere on the boat while the pump out operation is proceeding...

What everyone else said.... Get some latex gloves and place on the boat for dealing with the pump out process. I always hold my other hand under it when unscrewing the thing just in case I fumble it.

screw? the pump outs I have used are all rubber ends that seal when you press them into the opening.

We have both.

After getting crap all over myself one time with the hold on type I now only use the screw on fitting then clamp on the hose then open the cock.

At our marina, DYI pump-outs are free for slip renters.

No chain on mine. I carry a spare waste cap for that inevitable day I fumble with the cap....

I carry a scuba mask. You can carry a spare of each and every loose part, or buy a mask. I should probably get both.

No chain on mine either and it makes sense for having tight seal. It ould be in the way for the screw-on type as well. So, your dealer provided valid info. So, just take extra caution when taking the cap off and putting it on, place it in safe spot while doing pump-out.

That might work in Florida, but you can't see 2 inches in front of your face 3' down in the Chesapeake... :smt089

No Chain here! Always afraid I am going to drop the damn thing. Latex gloves are on the boat for that specific chore.
