340 SUNDANCER THREAD

Hey there, Did you ever upgrade your stereo?
I also would like a newer head unit but find the helm controller and the CD changer convenient.
What did you find if anything?? Thanks in advance if you get this.

I upgraded the head unit and the speakers. I used a Clarion M303 and replace the remote with the newer clarion remote at the helm that works with that unit. Wasn't hard to do, the cable runs down the starboard side behind the closet and stereo enclosure. I replace the speakers with Polk Audio 651's and a 10 in polk sub that is under the bench seat by the helm.

I'm changing things around a bit this year though, probably won't have the M303 connected anymore and will just attach an iPad or my chrome cast audio to the amps RCA inputs and play music streamed from spotify. I run a wifi hotspot on the boat so I can control the music from a long way off using my phone.

Would you mind posting a pic of your sub installation? I really need some low end on my 02 340DA, but am really hesitant on cutting a 10" hole in her.
Thanks,
Jim

I will be installing a Garmin open array radar soon but I need to know if any of you guys went this route and what degree mount did you go with or no degree at all. The factory installed Raymarine mount by the pics I have of my boat looks to me straight, zero degs. Thoughts?

Hello I am looking for some help with My 2000 340 Sundancer. I am looking to upgrade my current props from 17x17 HyTorque 3 blades to ACME 3 or 4 blade props. The problem I am having is it seems like this retro has been done to boats that have either the 7.4 MPI 310hp motors or the 8.1 motors but I cant seem to find anyone that actually list their results and what prop was used on the 7.4 Horizon 380hp motors that I have. I have not made any modifications to the boat other than replaced the log style mufflers with the Vernalift exhaust. My boat currently hits the WOT range when loaded and my bottom is painted but is smooth as new. My objective is to try to bring the bow down some (i do have chain rode) and maybe improve mid rage performance by being able to bring my cruise rpms down about 200 rpm. I have searched here and on Google without any hard conclusion somebody may have come to with this setup. My hope is that maybe someone on here can recommend with first hand experience what prop I should try without having to do a bunch of prop swaps trying to find the right one. I am pretty much set on Acme from everyone I have talked to they are they way to go. I am not concerned with cost.

Sorry it took so long but here is what my sub install looks like.

Looks great!
How do you like the coverage, and amount of low end?

I think it sounds great, and provides ample amounts of bass. I'm still tracking down some of the rattles that show up around the cockpit because of it.

The door on the bench will need to be a very tight fit, I usually stick a cloth or something similar to stop it from rattling. I believe the sub is rated at 350 watts, but right now i'm pushing 330 to it.

Contact Ron Jacobs at Wolverine Propller www.wolverinepropeller.com. He recommended I switch to Acme 3 blades and it made a pretty good difference. This was for my '02 340 with the 6.2s (320 hp). It lowered the bow during cruise, decreased vibration and the boat stays on plane at a much lower RPM vs the stock hy torq props.

Ron is very knowledgeable and he will recommend the correct propeller for your boat. No affiliation, just a satisfied customer here!

I put a JL sub in this exact spot on my 340 as well. Sounds great. The only (very) annoying part is the rattle from the door on the forward side of this compartment. I haven't yet solved this problem. For now I just leave the door open when it's really turned up (typically when we're in the water). First world problems to be sure...

I have a full Alpine system and had the same door rattle with my 300W sub. Solution: weatherstripping - find some of the thin foam stuff with adhesive on the back at a home improvement store. You'll have to use it sparingly because if you do the entire door it will be very hard to close.
Just for future reference on anyone installing several amplifiers, mine are behind the storage compartment to the right of the captains chair. There's a lot of space and has access to both the stereo compartment (with some finess) and the engine room with a little drilling. Here in the AZ heat of summer no problems with overheating unless you play at full volume for a few hours.

I'll have to try to find some thin weather stripping. Good tip!

For what it's worth I mounted my amps in the storage closet between the bulkhead and head-unit location for easier access. The storage compartment next to the captains chair is caulked so I didn't want to use that more than absolutely necessary (I did use it to route my wires, very useful). But if you never need to access your amps I guess it matters not?

Thank you. I hear great things about the Acme props. It is amazing how far from one end of the spectrum to the other "opinions" can be by talking to one prop shop to the other. I am trying to find a shop that has prior experience with this setup. I talked to Jim from Acme and wow that guy has some impressive knowledge.

Need some advice please. Looking to transport my 2004 340 from freshwater (NH) to saltwater (Portsmouth RI). Has anyone transported via hauling company? Any recommendations? Do props need to be removed? Boat is still winterized and wrapped from last season. Anything other than new bottom paint and replacing zinc's that I should be concerned with.

I had my 340 hauled a few hundred miles. The props will likely stay on but the arch will come off. As such the wrap will surely be removed. Bottom paint and anodes should have been checked during your survey?

Picked up my 340 DA with only a couple of weekends left in the season last year. Basically loaded gear, food, spares, etc in the boat in a hurry to get a couple weekends in with the boat before putting her to bed for the winter. Now that she's coming out of hibernation around May 1st, I want to take a more thoughtful approach to organizing the storage on her. Fortunately, there are a lot of places to put your "stuff" on a 340. How do folks utilize storage, where do you keep safety gear, tools, spares, utensils, food, etc.? Any particular tips that have worked well for you, or containers that help you organize?

This season we're going to be a little more intentional I how we outfit the boat, and I know there are some more experienced folks out there. We've always had day cruisers before this, and so this is a nice step up for us. Thanks for your ideas!

I had a 2002 340 shipped from Miami Florida to Charleston, WV in 2013. Props were removed, but arch was left on with only electronics removed from the arch. I used a company called "Miami Cradle" and they did a fantastic job. They charged 4,500 for nearly 900 mile trip, which I thought was reasonable. Rob

Stee6043--No survey, I've owned the boat for 6 years. Do you remember about what you paid? I'm getting quotes for $1450, just want to see if that's the norm.

Thanks Rob, this is helpful. Not a bad cost considering the distance. I only need to go 175 miles

Great topic,
Tools and spares under captain seat, safety gear under back and side bench for easy access, canvas in back facing bench but rethinking this process, utensils/food magically comes up from below when I'm hungry
