340 SUNDANCER THREAD

I've been trying to figure out what to do with the old TV cubby too. It looks like you put a smoked glass or plexiglass door to cover it with a magnetic latch?

Post one!

Moving away from power boats, and into a wet slipped Sea Ray. Working a deal on a 2002 340DA. (8.1s, V drives, black canvas, full Cherry Cabin) Survey is being done on Tuesday. Any and All sugestions things to check would be great.

I have looked at the boat in person once, took a ride, and crawled all around on it. Was very impressed, and I am anal...

I grew up on boats, on the water, avid boater to this day.

If it's dry - buy it! Common problem areas on this boat will be moisture forward of the windshield, around the hatch and around the windlass. I think it's pretty common for the swim platform to also have some moisture issues but if it's removable (like my 99) that isn't as big of a deal vs integrated, in my opinion.

Post up some other details. Hours? Generator?

We love our 340 but I'd be lying if I said that we weren't wishing for a few more feet by the end of the first season. We have three kids. Fully survivable on this boat but a little more beam would be sooo nice. And since you've already crawled around this thing I'm sure you've already seen the engine compartment? Oil changes are doable but just about everything else is pure pain. Changing impellers on the mains? I'm convinced my marina employees 6 year old kids to do this. Need to change your AC circ pump? You'll need that same 6 year old but he needs to have four foot long arms.

We really do enjoy our 340. I was as shocked as anyone that threefootitus set in so quickly....

mains have 740 (little more then I like, but i come from performance boats and have seen our family boats make it 1400+ so should be fine), has westerbeke genny, would not buy one with out... hell my 34foot go fast had a westerbeke and AC. Alabama Heat is hard to sleep in!

dry is a understatement. there was dust in the bilge....

from some reading on here people talk about the decks being wet. but I was told that was the 03-08 ish ones with the round sky lights, not the 99-02 old school sea ray hatches?

I think you may have the wet/dry backward. 98-02 were heavily impacted by moisture issues. A full deck repair is $10k plus. If you've found a dry one that hasn't already been repaired you're in the minority (at least based on what I saw when shopping)...

750 hours is not a lot of hours. I'd personally be more concerned if it had too few. Too much sitting is bad news...

So where are the issues to look? survier will have moister meter with himand using it. will be sure to check the problem areas you speak of. boat has lived its whole life under cover, in freshwater.

So how did the survey go?

Boat checked out great, bottom was great no blisters or spots, paint still good. Ran boat out just fine, ran 37 mph up stream which was a little slower then I like but also did not have tabs right , and had full tops, and camper top on it.. so will see more later.

allsystems worked perfect. Deck had no moister in it, and was solid. Been covered it's whole life.

I have googled and searched to no end. I can find threads of people talking about how tall they are and if they fit on the bed. But no one, has measured the v birth.

can one of you measure the thing?

head board length, top angle length, foot angle length, and bottom length. And over all length and width?

would be helpful in what I am doing and don't have the boat yet.

I don't have all the dimensions you are asking for but I have overall length is 78" X70" wide. I took measurements to replace bed. Boat is shrink wrapped right now. That is close to cushion measurements.

Thank you! Sure seams big for a boat! Hope its as roomy as it seams

I bought a memory foam mattress and cut it. The cushions are ok for a night or 2 but they started bothering me. The foam mattress works great the one I bought interfered with the closet door a little . The extra thickness was worth the Hassel with door.

So I have a King size mattress I am going to cut for this as well. My last boat I used the factory cussions and then a 4 inch topper. But I have access to a full on mattress so, screw it I am going to pull the factory cushions and store them at home, and just cut the shape out of the whole 12" mattress. Not sure if that will be to thick or not. I can always thin the total thickness down some as well trimming from the bottom side so the top is still smooth and flat.

I added a 4" thick foam pad to our bed and that was the best mod I have done yet to the boat...we sleep VERY well now....I suggest you use a fairly high density foam to be sure you get enough cushion below you....I used a 4 lb density foam...I am 6' 1" tall and 215 lbs....I fit on the bed easily without my feet hanging off the end.........

you will need to buy a king size pad....the V berth bed in this generation of 340's is quite large......use an electric carving knife to cut the foam pad......you can lay the existing pads on top to the new foam pad as a template....
