Hey guys,
I have a 2005 Sundancer 340
I was at the boat the other day and the speakers for the deck suddenly cut out. I have the clarion unit with the upgraded speaker and amp package. The head unit was on and looked fine but the amps, remotes, and Bluetooth all were out. The amps didn't have lights on but there was live power going to them. I checked with a test light. A few days later everything worked again for a couple hours and then stopped again.
Anyone have any ideas? I've heard the remote on the dash has to be on in order for the amps to fire up. When they started working again the other day, the display on the remote wasn't working. Could this possibly be the cause?
Thanks!!

Hi, Assume you have pretty much the same setup as I do.

1. Amp will take power directly but it turns on via the remote wire from the head unit. Your remotes have nothing to do with it other than you can turn on/off the stereo remotely and thus turn on/off the amp.

2. Either a lose wire or the head unit is starting to go. Fuses are either good or blown, so if you're still getting power, the only device that can go out is the head unit and/or perhaps the breaker (going bad or lose wire).

3. A short at some other device like a remote is turning off the system. My rear remote on the swim platform was completely corroded at the connector.

Thanks for your reply! Could it be possible that there is a short or something in the remote that is causing this? When everything started working again the last time, the display on the remote was out which worked before. The buttons still worked though.

Yes, it's very possible. I just replaced both of mine as the cockpit one with the LCDs was slowly dying and the rear one was completely useless. I could use the cockpit one, but literally no controls worked on the rear. I could definitely see how it could happen.

That said, you could simply disconnect the wired remotes (cable in back of head unit) and see if it stays working. The remotes are pricey and in hindsight I should have replaced the head and remotes with newer models. I just ordered a new amp (bad channel in old one) and am thinking about a Fusion unit.

Thanks again! I'll try disconnecting it tonight and I'll let you know.

I had a fuse for my amps blow... The fuse was located on a wire connected directly to the a battery... I fuse looked good but the end has corroded and failed...

I don't think it's a fuse because the amps are getting power, just not turning on. I tried unplugging the remotes in the back of the head unit. Still nothing. At this point I'm thinking either the blue power wire from the head unit to the amps is bad or the head unit is bad.
Any thoughts?

Does the head unit power up? The fuse for the amp is not the same fuse as the head unit. That said, a fuse is on or off unless it's the slow burning type on the generator (N/A here).

The amp getting power does not mean it's working.

The front cabin speakers are direct wired and do not go through the amp. If the fader is set to the front and the head unit is working, you'll get sound. If you get sound and none of the rear (outside) speakers come on, that could be a bad amp (I doubt all the channels would go out at once, but I'm not an amp expert).

If you head unit just doesn't power up, try toggling the breaker off and let it rest (cools down) and toggle it back on looking for any power when you press the red on button. If there's none and you've checked the blade fuse, you might be looking at a new head unit. Worse case, unplug the harness and RCA jacks (just remove it at this point) and get two jumper wires from a 12V battery on the red (switched power) and black (ground) wires. You'll know if it's the unit or the breaker at that point.

The head unit powers up like normal. I'm just not getting any sound. There are 2 amps that go to the cockpit. Neither one is working but both are getting power. I tested the power to them with a tester. I also tested both fuses in the amps. There just not powering up. There are green lights on the amp that light up when it's on. This same thing happened last week. Music just suddenly cut off. It started working again a few days later. I have 2 separate stereos. One for the cabin and one for the cockpit.
Thanks again!

Also, I have a fusion Bluetooth that doesn't work when this happens. Like it's not getting power either.

So the bluetooth (FUSION MS-BT100) disappears or is visible but doesn't work? If power is going to the BT device, regardless of the signal getting to it and through the RCA connectors, you should see it. If you can't see it because it disappears, you have a power or ground issue. I would take a volt meter to the power to the head unit...just wondering if it's dropping below a certain voltage.

I'll try that. I'm wondering if it could be the blue power wire? This is also what powers the Bluetooth.

I absolutely would not be using the blue wire for the blue tooth. My understanding is typically amp power wires are 12V but very little amps, just enough to trigger the amp to turn on. You can actually remove the blue wire and run another power wire directly to the amp to "trigger" the amp to turn on. Or at least remove the blue tooth and try it again.

I'll try jumping the wire from the back of the unit to the amp. Also, I had a speaker that started to go out so I unplugged it. Could this have anything to do with it?

Yeah, dont use the head units blue turn-on for the BT. It could draw enough to blow the circuit inside the head unit, not to mention its not a "clean" 12V for quality audio. Could result in poor SQ and/or noise.

No, a bad speaker will not impact the others as you likely have discrete channels.

Hey guys I have a question for you. I have the same Clarion tape deck/CD changer/amp setup. For the life of me I cannot find the manual for it nor can I find one online and I can't figure out which button to press to get to the fader/bass/treble adjusters.

Worst part is I used to have the same version of this thing in my car 20 years ago:smt013

Does anyone have a link to an online manual? Or what to press to get to it?
