Cool shot Rod. Where's your M3, did you sell it on ebay? LOL.

Stored the KVH in the shed... I planned to shrink wrap the boat in the water, but did not get around to it... Hope my bilge punps don't freeze... I plan on pouring more antifreeze in the bilge today...

Great shot Rod. Please keep an eye on your ice eater. The

picture is my friends boat back in 2004 & he didn't keep an

eye on his.

Where did you buy the white pole toppers? I've been looking

for them for a while?

So what caused that boat to sink? I dont understand how the ice eaters played a role. Looks like a 30 Dancer which would have I/O's or is in it a weekender with inboards?

More background please...

The ice eater picked up a plastic bag which caused it to stop circulating the water, the ice froze pushing the boat up against the bulkhead. The tide came up and the boat got hung up on the bulkhead causing the starboard side to go under.
It WAS a 30' Dancer!

Thanks for the explanation..
Was it covered by insurance and did they pay?
Any environmental issues/fines?

I'm not following that explanation....but that could just be me. Also, if it was a sundancer, then it had I/O's. IMHO, I/O's should not be wintered in the water. Ice eater stops, water freezes around the bellows, crushes the area and water gets in and the boat sinks.

Ya Know Rod....

For us here in sunny Cal where, waterfront property is fo ba-jillionaires, it gets hard to feel sorry for someone with their boat in their backyard, ice or no ice.

But I guess you could look at it as additional torture when you can look out at your boat everyday and know it ain't goin' nowhere.

I can use the boat year 'round but I have to drive 45 minutes to get to it. I would have to give some thought as to what would be worse. Having the boat in the backyard and only getting to use it 6 months of the year or having the boat 45 minutes away in a marina but year 'round boating.

Sounds like a good poll question.

We bought the caps at West Marine... Had to buy two different sizes... It was about 5 years ago so I don't remember the cost... BTW over Christmas break the ice eater plug fell out of the timer with the wind... We were away and fortunately it was not too cold... Thanks for the picture...

What's the old saying "Absence makes the heart grow fonder"? At least if it's in the back yard, you could run an extension cord for an electric heater and be on the boat.

My boat is 3 hours away in a locked building. I said goodbye in October and April can't come soon enough. My todo list already has over 20 items and my tobuy list is catching up.

It was not covered by insurance. There were no fines as no oil or fuel was spilled into the water.

If your plug can get pulled out that easy you should put a twist lock plug & outlet on it like you have for the power supply for the boat, cheep Insurance.
