This may sound like a stupid question but I do need help before I break something. My manual says there is storage under the pull out couch in the main cabin but when I slide it out a strap holds it from moving out and there seems to be no way to move it side to side or up without damaging something? I'm sure there is some trick to this that I am not seeing....?

The outward travel of the couch is limited to somewhere around 6-8 inches?. The storage they're talking about is in 2 small compartments located on either side of center. The couch does not have to be pulled out to access the storage areas.

is there some hidden access doors that I'm not seeing? when its pulled out I can reach under and feel two open area's either side of center? but it's just carpet from the floor up to the seat??

The doors are carpeted in front and should pull down.

My 03 does not have them but this would be a cool modification, I don't think anything else is down there. I'll have to take a close look at a more recent model and see if it is a doable project (or rather what the risk is that I'd screw it up more and have to buy a whole new couch like things normally turn out)

Ok,

If this exists, I don't know about it. In the 2003.5 - 2008 340, the fresh water tank is below that couch. The couch slides out quite a bit more than a few inches - closer to 2 feet. The problem is that it hits the steps. The slides are usually installed pretty well, but the pieces that slides in the groove are mounted on thin plywood. The fasteners (tiny nails on mine) back out and catch in the groove. You may need to remove the offending fasteners.

Try to pull it straight out while gently working it left and right (toward bow and stern). The center piece slides out with the couch to provide support in the center. Make sure that piece isn't catching on the rug. To remove the couch, as it slides out, work the cushion between two steps until the sliders exit the ends of the slides. It's fairly fragile construction. I (and Teekster) have our amps mounted on top of that water tank, but there isn't much more room that 4" or so.

Very strange...my 2002 300DA had the doors, as does i believe, the 320DA. If the 340 has the fresh water tank there that would explain the absence of storage space. Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks, my assumption was that we were talking about the crescent shaped sofa in the center of the cabin, since the original poster said main cabin. Now I understand why John says his pulled out so far.

Now I'm confused. No, I'm talking about the one opposite the galley. That is where the fresh water tank is. In the mid cabin, it is hollow underneath. We store all of our dive gear under the port side in a 8" tall tupperware container which is about 3' X 2' or so, and our Magma grill to port.

The one opposit the galley pulls out quite a bit by removing the table and slipping the cushion between two steps.

John,

How do you access the space under the mid-cabin "sofa"? I've only pulled out the top enough to convert the space to a bed. I haven't noticed access from the top (under the sliding panel), but maybe I missed it.

I'm sorry. I've mislead you. We leave ours out in the "bed" mode, and keep stuff under it. It's tucked up under the low ceiling, and we've never had the need/desire to sit down there, so we leave it pulled out. If you were to access the area beneath the back end of it, I believe you'd strike oil - refined, light sweed, crude, in the form of 89 octane unleaded. I had forgotton that it stowed back into a seating area.

I'm sorry too. I thought the 340DA had the same set up as the 300DA and 320DA of that year especially since you said the owners manual mentioned it? This is what I thought you were looking for.

This is the only way I've seen them. I've seen a 420 with the fresh water back there. There definately no list. The galley is on the other side as is the waste water, water heater and head.

Are you guys talking about two different pull outs? One is the salon sette in the MAIN cabin and the other is the pull out bed/ sette in the MID cabin.

My 03 340 had the water tank in the mid cabin . Backed the bulk head. The water fill was on the port side. The fuel tanks staddled the water tanks... 100 % positive.

in new boats they added access to under the stb side salon couch.

300 and 320DA's fresh water tanks mounted centerline beneath the MIDCABIN center sofa section on the cabin side of the er/cabin bulkhead. Same way that Brian, Scott and Rob describe it.

I must be wrong. I was told that it was under the salon couch, and when you open that bench, there's a big, solid white rectangle. When I pull out the mid-cabin fold down, I have a few feet of storage under there.

Scott, what is under your salon couch? Do you have storage accessed from both sides like some of the other boats?

Well, you learn something new everyday. Thank you.
