I am curious to know what your preferred cabin layout is on a mid 2000s 34' cruiser style boat, and why.

I like the layout of the Formula 34PC and Sea Ray 340. Head on the port as I enter the cabin, then the galley on port. Salon on the starboard (longer settee not the dinette configuration). I do not like a door to the forward berth, feels closed off and I do not need the privacy. I do not like the dinette configure on starboard where both are facing each other with a table between them. Seems to reduce cabin space (beam) to me, and feels less open.

I love the Cruisers Yacht 340 cockpit layout, but I don't like the "bubble" look of the head, it also feels like it cuts down on space in the cabin.

We have and love the 340 sundancer with long settee. Overall a great roomy boat. Plus V drives not out drives. Can’t go wrong and resale is very good. Good luck.

Love our 340 as well. Although we have out drives as we are on a lift in a covered slip. Engine room is VERY roomy, easy to work on pretty much anything down there. We are able to store our lawn chairs, umbrella, even our 8X8 pop up canopy down there when on trips. For cabin space, it is always the wife, daughter and I and we have plenty of room for food, storage, clothes, etc for a 10-12 day trip. Like the Formula as well as the Cruisers. Currently I am seeing the Sea Ray 340s listed at $10,000 over what we paid 6 years ago.

Try more like almost double what they were 3 years ago. 2001 - 2002 340s listed for mid to upper 50's 3 years ago, upper 90s and higher now.

My preference is outdrives for the reasons you list, but I plan to keep the boat in the water, probably year round. Brackish to fresh.

We also added fresh water flush kits after all of the cooling system investments. This years winter project is cool fuel units (the Mercury Kits as ours never received the paint issue service), new injectors (come with kit) and a camper back enclosure.

Yeah, it's freaking nuts.

I really like the Cruisers Yacht 340, have a 2007 on my radar. I am not sure about walking down right into the galley, and then the bubbled out look of the head, it feels like it's protruding into the level space. Otherwise, I like it.

I like having the seat on the port side next to the helm, kind of like the 320 Sea Ray,, though IMHO a much more usable and comfortable seat. I don't like the 3 forward facing seats in the 2003+ Sea Ray 340s, they don't seem usable while at the dock or anchored.
