Hi everyone, my wife and I bought a 98 330 sundancer last year which needs some work but it is pretty good. I don't like, however, the way the sun has turned the gelcote dull and yellowish. What are my best options to make her Brilliant and Gleam again. Anyone with suggestions? I would greatly appreciate it, as I am very fussy when it comes to my things and will not be 100% happy until she sparkles. Thanks in advance to all for such a great site...

I've had good luck with 3M's Finesse It polish with a superbuff wool pad on a rotatary buffer. I've had to do 2 coats before...then a coat or 2 of wax to protect it. If that doesn't work, maybe compounding is needed.

I'd suggest usng the SEARCH feature. This subject has been beat to daeth so many times I'd hate to see another multi page thread started that says the same thing as the other dozen or so threads already on CSR on this subject.

Use the search words "polish" or "dull" and you will have enough reading for several hours.

Thanks Larry I appreciate the help and sorry to have irked you Dave wasn't my intention

Thre are as many products out there as there are posts on this site. I have used Aurora with success. The sides shine up very well. The decks I treated with thier sure step. It shines but like it's hazy and needs to be buffed. You will stick to the stuff though.

Buff Magic and Pro Polish are very popular of late. I have seen great results with that combo. I have a friend who used Leverage products on his 310. Because of the condidion of the glass when he bought the boat, he spend a lot of time removing oxidation. Once he got it to where he wanted it, He applied the Leverage polish. The boat is a late nineties and looks as if it just came off the showroom floor. I believe Leverage is a sponsor of this site. He will have far better input to you than me. If you can get it out of the water to work on her, you will be miles ahead.

What I would stay away from is Polyglo or any liquid miracle stuff. I have never seen it stand up to the weather. Also, 303 says it will polish fiberglass. It does for about 96 hours. Then it goes wherever 303 goes when it doesn't work anymore.

HTH.

What are you thinking of using on the top sides? The reason I ask is that your boat and my boat doesn'tt have a nice diamond non-skid, it has that ripple. So I am kind of stuck there, as if I end up polishing it I need to protect it and don't want to turn it into a skating rink... My gelcoat is just chalky not yellow at all. Make sure that your previous owner (PO) did not put any of that polyglo stuff on there as that will turn yellow and if its there it has to be stripped off or it will stay yellow...

I am in your same situation so after reading the great threads on the topics I am going this route, YMMV..

1. Harbor Freight Rotary Polisher and several Meguiars wool pads with Meguiar's #49, followed up by #67. I was planning on using the #49 on the topsides as the side still has a good shine so I think it only needs the #67.

2. Break out the Porter Cable and apply Flagship Premium Marine Wax to the topsides and hull.

3. Drink Heavily... If I am still able to lift anything.

You forgot step 4,,, Have the kids do all the work while you supervise and drink away.

Well the kids are 6 & 7 so they just might do the same quality of work that I would do!!!!

I have to thank Todd, Jeremy, and John for that never ending polishing post. I must have read it all 4 times to get clear on everything. But the links there to ADS are great. Put in the order yesterday and it shipped same day. Great service from those folks so far. This shall be the year of Meguiar's on the boat so we shall see how she fairs.

Use Shurhold's Buff Magic followed by the Pro Polish. Buff Magic removes oxidation and that chalky look, while the Pro Polish makes the surface shine like new. I had really good results when I used it 2 weeks ago with Shurhold's new Dual Action buffer. These people make really high quality products that deliver results.
