Looking for some suggestions/help on a starting issue. My 330 DA is equipped with 7.4L MPI V-Drives. Took the boat out today for a spin to knock off some bottom junk. Got on plane @30 MPH for about 15 minutes, everything was running fine both engines humming along. Anchored and cranked up the generator (5KW Westerbeke) watched a little TV, ran the air conditioner and washed the boat. After about an hour, cranked the starboard engine and it died. tried several more times and each time it ran 5 seconds and died. Also couldn't restart the generator. Cranked the port engine, hoisted anchor, and limped home. Any ideas?

Thanks, Dan

When it ran for 5 seconds, was a really 5 seconds? If so, did it idle normally? Fast? Slow? Roughly? Need more data.

No, it would just start and die. Never really ran on it's own. As soon as the starter disengaged it would die. Same with the generator.

check your ingnition breaker, my boat did the same thing it was the breaker on the gen

Had a similar problem on on the 4th watching the fireworks. Same thing, starboard motor and generator. We were anchored and my generator just quit, I tried to restart and it would run for 5-10 sec then shut off. I waited watched the fireworks and tried starting the main to charge the batteries before going to bed, and had the same problem with the starboard motor, both draw off the same tank..waited till morning and retried, after about 5 min of cranking it started, ran rough then smoothed out, same for the gen and has run fine since..Only thing I can think of was vapor lock..Check for vent hose for kinks, I found a slight kink in mine.

Next time, try advancing the throttle a bit. Sometimes the IAC gets a little sticky and needs some "help." Pretty soon it breaks free and works OK. Don't know the generator's problem. The generator draws from the same tank, but from a different fitting. The tap for the genset doesn't reach to the bottom of the tank, so that the gen runs out of fuel before the mains.

Best regards,
Frank
