310 Sundancer Thread (2007 & newer)

This should give you a good feel for the setup. Disregard the power cords, those are now inside the open space behind the cutouts.

I hit some rough seas when launching the boat this year, couple of 5 and 6 footers. When i was in the slip I noticed the ceiling panels in the cabin are loose they have about 6 to 8 inches of play in the middle right where the curtain track is, and around the skylights. Has anyone ever removed these? Whats holding them up? i see the screws around the skylights and along the curtain track but i don't see anything else. any help would be awesome!

Thanks in advance,
Bryan

Update, very poor design from sea ray,i had to cut little holes to get the screws out and they used little shirt number 8 wood screws into plywood to hold up all that weight. I stepped some up to number 10 and others to nuts, bolts, washers, and nylon lock nuts. It took all day to do it, I even had to remove my port wiper motor

Any chance you could post some pictures? Trying to see what you need and if I should look at my setup. Should I be able to push up on the ceiling panels and have about X inches of give? I could always use the extra ceiling space as I'm 6'5" tall.

Thanks for the idea. I have mine hooked and it looks great. Did you replace the other one?

Anyone on here with a 6.2 Horizon with v-drives, what are you getting for RPM's at WOT?

Thanks mancave, I have already read that article, I want to know what people in the forum are getting in real world use on boats that are not brand new.

I have stern drives - I've never been able to push the boat to 5300 RPMs - I know I've crested 5000-5100 a few times, but never what the article says. On the GPS I've run 43-45mph...I assume there's a variance as I always keep the tanks full and with the cooler, frig stocked, all the tools, cleaners, etc., that the weight certainly comes into play. Runs like a champ, no issues, and certainly a spirited pace compared to many boats in that class.

Bryan, please keep me informed. I REALLY WANT TO TRACK THIS LEAK DOWN, as everything forward of the bulkhead should not be getting water in there. All my other compartments such as AC and Bow Thruster are bone dry. I cleaned everything out, and simplified the process for getting back in there to the water tank. (Didn't put back ALL the screws). I know water will still get in there, but know that I will have to clean out every 6 months or so until I find out where the leak is. I'll keep you posted.

Mike

I know this is an old quote but I'm having the same problem and wondered if that water under the fresh water tank was the source ?
Did you ever find where the water was coming from?
Anyone else have the issue of stinky cabin after going for a run.?
Thanks

I have yet to track it down, it was bone dry under the fresh water tank. There is another area that I cant get to aft of the compartment where the shower sump is that is under the floor. It may be a leak somewhere in there, I don't think I can get to it without removing the carpet. I have checked several times this year and I have not had any water in there yet.

On another note, I was in some shallow water yesterday and sucked up some mud ( 6.2 Horizons with V-Drives) so much that water pressure dropped to.5 and there was no water coming out at all. I shut that engine down and I tied up to someone's dock and blew out the thru hull with the inflator I use for the toys. Primed it with some fresh water and was able to limp back to the slip at 10mph. Its a give in that I will need to change out the impeller but is there something else I should check? It was giving me 3.0 pounds on the way home but the flow was good, only ran 165 in temp, so It was cooling. I ran for hour and a half to make it home. Thanks in advance -Bryan FYI, bran new pumps less than 50 hours ago.

This may be a stupid question, but, why is there always water in the bilge, how does it get in?

Just happen to be reading back on your posts reference two issues - smell in the cabin (I had that once I pulled it out of storage even with damp rid, etc) and the water in the bilge.

I did not clean my screen in front of the AC and there was some stagnant water behind the shower sump...I should have looked, I winterized the heck out of the boat and ensured the sump box had been cleaned and all the lines filled with AF, but never went back and cleaned that area. It was stinky.

The 2nd issue is water in the bilge...I've literally washed out my bilge area, wet vac'd and sham wow'd the excess water out...only to come back and find some, not a lot, of water in the bilge...turned out to be a very slow drip coming back off the check valve for the bilge pump...that hose is full of water from the outlet back to the valve...that was slowly dripping back into the bilge overnight.

So mancaveII did you change the check valves and lessen the water in there ?

Bryan, thanks for the help with the compartment lid for the bow thruster. It just happens that mine had 4 screws on each corner. I was careful enough to get the screws out with no problem.

Also, I think I might have solved your odor problem, because I had the same thing. Firstly, I'm not sure where the water is coming from, but I might have an idea. The odor might be caused by water sitting in the shower sump location and another compartment. (Not in the shower sump itself, but in the compartment where it is located). Where that water is coming, I have no idea, but I'll get to that in a moment. I basically removed all my cushions in the aft compartment, the seat holders (black wooden braces on both sides), and started removing the wooden floor that the seats rest on. (I only removed the small floor panel on the starboard side and the main larger panel covering the water tank - two panels). The carpet is stapled to those panels so you will need to peel back the carpet and remove the staples. Under the small starboard panel you might find water. (Mine was pretty smelly and old). This compartment is closed off as far as I can see, so I'm not sure how water got in there. The main fresh water line from the main water inlet/fill runs in there along with the wires for the water tank level sensor. I didn't see a leak from those lines. I cleaned out. I emptied my water tank and removed the 1 x 1s (Cut the one on the starboard side enough to get clearance to lift out water tank... it was stapled from the other side and had to cut of the showing staples with a wire cutter, removed the back one on the bulkhead to the engine.. this was easy as the screws were from the front. The 1 x 1 on toward the bow was difficult as it was screwed from the other side... I just gently worked it loose). After those were removed, I was able to lift out the water tank. In short, there was water underneath the tank and it was disgusting. In the compartment where the water tank sits, there is a hole forward that leads into the shower sump compartment. So.... that water that sits in the shower compartment drains back under the water tank and sits there.

Now that we have the geography, (I'm not necessarily recommending you remove everything like I did, but just wanted to give you some history) I believe the water might be coming in under the helm or even under the captains chair. These boats always list a bit to starboard, and the water gets caught in the caulking groove and dumps near the throttle or into your cup holder underneath the captains chair. I redirected/dammed the water a couple of years ago with a line of caulk to the drainage hold through the windshield. But why am I still getting some water there? I think my next step will to make sure the windshield in tight (no screws missing). If you have any ideas, please let me know.

Thanks,
Mike

You don't happen to have any pics from when you removed all this do you?
That's where I'm pretty sure my smell is...

Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures. It shouldn't be too difficult however. (If I can figure it out, you certainly can).

Thanks,
Mike

Does anyone know if the emergency bilge pump running results in an audible alarm of any sort? If I manually activate it using the float switch I do not hear any nor does the indicator light on the helm panel come on (as it does with the main bilge pump).

I'm basically trying to determine if I need to fix something that should be working (or add something that I think should really be there)...
