310 Sundancer Thread (2007 & newer)

Hi guys,
Looking at upgrading from 260 to brand new 310 with axius. The boat i am looking at has the smaller 5.0l 260hp motors. Will this due for general cruising? Or should i be looking for a 350mag / 300 hp?

Thanks

A new 310 (the old 290) might do OK with the 5.0s... Would not work in mine though.

Just a suggestion but why not get a bigger late model lightly used boat?

Thanks for the response, kinda complex but that is also in consideration. We will see. Since you basically have what I am looking to trade up to... What are your thoughts on the 310?

The 310 w/Axius (before 2009) is a great boat with MAG350's. But the most important for me in salt water would be to get SeaCore engine setup. Cruise RPM is a bit on the high side IMHO - which is why I'm (will be) experimenting with the later 4 bladed Merc prop's very soon - to bring down the midrange a bit and lower the noise. Topspeed for me is between 38 and 41 knots.

Sometime in 2009 Sea Ray renamed their boats. So the 2008 SR 310 - is now the SR 330 - and the 290 turned into the 310. Very confusing. The 330 turned into the 350 and so on. Nothing else changed really. Download the older vs current manuals and you can see the setup is more or less the same. Only minor details change. I think the most important change from 2009 onwards was a stronger swim platform and updated Axius Gen II.

I love my Axius. But older models are Axius Gen 1 which are more expensive to maintain than the later Gen 2 Axius. So my short-list would say "2010 and up" 330/350 Sundancer / MAG350 Axius SeaCore for 330 / ?? for the 350.

So go out and look for the size of boat that suits you. Figure out what that is pre 2009/post 2009 - Then add 2' :) and buy that one.

What is the maintenance required with the axius system gen 2?

There is a hydraulic system for the steering. On Gen I it uses High pressure pumps and filter which are very expensive - where Gen II uses low pressure system - where the parts are a lot cheaper. Filters should be replaced every year (ish) - and hydraulic oil should be exchanged from time to time.

Hi all, I'm a very proud owner of a 2009 Sea Ray 330 Sundancer(330 EU=310 US) with twin Mercruiser 377 and Axius. Can anyone tell how to see what generation av Axius is installed? Also, what is the latest software update?

JMoberg, you can call or contact Mercury Marine and give them the Serial Numbers. They will be able to tell you what updates are available!

The bracket that holds the gas strut that opens my anchor locker door came off and i want to re-attach it. Could someone let me know the measurements so i can make sure it is in the correct location? It came off clean so i have no idea where it should be adheared to!

We have the same year boat and engine combination. We have found 3900 - 4000 RPM to be the best cruising speed. 'Seems high, but that is what it takes to stay on plane. Around 30 GPH for both engines and about 0.9 MPG.

The drawer refer works on 12V DC only. It doesn't get very cold. We use it as a crisper. Fully charged batteries are a must.

Least I'm not the only one running that high.... Everyone at my marina tells me I'm nuts...

I run between 3600-3800 rpm around 21-22 knots with slight tabs down

My boat dosent move in that range...

I am trying to figure out how to flush the engines with fresh water when the boat is in the water - I was told about a flush kit for mercruiser but i am not sure what i need to be able to do it - i wonder if anybody can guide me - i have twin inboard 350 mercruiser engines. thanks
Andrea
