Does 303 High Tech Fabric Guard have UV protection in it? The west marine site mentions it does but the Gold Eagle site (manufacturer) doesn't.

Reason I ask: Bought a used 2011 Bennington pontoon last year and the cover is literally falling apart in your hands. To my knowledge it never had any protectant during its life. The boat sits on the water from May through October so that is quite a bit of direct sun. We are going to get a new cover this winter and want to prepare for next season.

Best I can tell the fabric is called Surlast.

303 has UV inhibitors in it.

Does it? Not disputing, really, more inquisitive. I knew the "aerospace" stuff had UV, but that is for the vinyl... I never knew the fabric guard (i.e. water/stain repellent) had UV as well.

I have many good friends at Gold Eagle and have been associated with them for years.
I have forwarded your question to them and I will respond to you with their answer as soon as I receive it.

Here is your answer direct from Gold Eagle/303
As for the customer’s question:

No, Fabric Guard does not have a UV protection. Most high end outdoor fabric has a protective coating when 1st purchased and many are already UV resistant. Harsh cleaners and friction can, over time, wear that coating away and if not taken care of, it can cause mildew and other damage; similar to what you are seeing with your cover now.

We recommend using the 303® Multi-Surface Cleaner to clean since it is water based and rinses residue free. This allows our 303® Fabric Guard to be applied and to fully bond to the fabric fibers after the fabric has dried completely. It does not alter the color or feel of the fabric so you can use it as a retreatment to areas that start to absorb water or as a re-treatment for your entire fabric surface. 303® Fabric Guard is critical in keeping your fabric items looking newer longer, because it impedes mildew growth and helps repel dirt and dust.

Thank you!

Just read my 303 bottles.......as stated the vinyl treatment version says SPF 40 UV protection....the fabric guard does not mention a SPF factor.

I stand corrected.

So what happens if you use the aerospace protectant on canvas instead of the fabric guard? Will it possibly do damage? Would it have a similar effect?

I mixed up the two bottles and sprayed my cover with the aerospace protectant accidentally. I rewashed my cover and used the fabric stuff. Was that a waste of time? Or did I save my cover.
