I have a 1986 300WE with twin 350ci merc IB's. Since I have had the boat( going on 5 years) the port motor has been lacking power compared to the starboard side. Recently it has gotten to the point where the port side will only turn around 3k,feels very flat, and has a noticeable upper end tick at idle. The engine shows just under 1100 freshwater hours, and has had a very meticulous maintenance program. I think I have eliminated fuel feed and ignition from the root cause. This weekend I am gonna compression test and cyl. leakdown test all cylinders. Dont know if I will see anything with these tests, because I am starting to think I have a worn Camshaft issue. I am a GM Automobile Tech. for a dealership here in NY,that diagnosis these kind of problems all the time with modern day equipment, but would like to know if any of my comrades here at Club SR have any tests I can put this motor through so that I can see what I have here. It shows alot of signs that its just mechanically weak but I wanna just be sure before I pull it. Also I have another question that I hope I can get some help with. Does anyone know If this era engine had mostly 4-bolt mains or 2-bolt, 1 or2 piece rear mains, solid or hydraulic lifters?? Also if this motor turns out tired I will most likely replace with a reman. due to quick turn around. Can anyone recommend a good ReMan Marine engine company? Once again thank you all for any responses and we do have the best boats out there Old and New!!! Dan
