300 Sundancer questions.

So I've just installed 4 new batteries in my 300DA, I used the windlass first time use of the windlass after that To anchor but then was unable to retrieve the anchor by windlass a few hours later.
Any ideas what might have caused this!

The fuse in the chain cabin was blown and replaced, the fused under the helm was tripped and reset. I can occasionally get the windlass to spin after a reset but only in the down position. Pressing up (retrieve) does nothing at all.

Any help would be great

If it's still not working, check the breaker in the bilge right above where your batteries are. There's a high current breaker there. If that breaker is tripped, there will be a tab hanging down that you spress back up into the parallel position. Retrieving my anchor once, it got jammed in the roller/chute and tripped my breaker in the bilge. Didnt konw about it, but luckily my anchor was already almost fully up so that I could get home to investigate. When it was tripped you could hear the relay "clicking" at the helm when activating the helm anchor controls, but nothing at the foot switches or elsewhere.

Here's a pic of the breaker in my boat.

That said, when I had that incident, I did not blow any fuses in the anchor locker, or trip the breaker under the helm.

Just re-read your post. You may also want to check that all the wires to the switches are securely connected, and that they are not corroded. If there is corrosion you may not be getting solid contact.

Seems there's been lots of arcing inside the control box which I've now cleaned up as you can see. The solenoids in the yellow is my fear of what may be wrong, one side seems ok but the other side looks burnt.

My winch only operates one way at the moment. DOWN.

Could this be the problem?

Yep, just confirmed this WAS the problem. Swapped the polarity to the clean side and the anchor winched up no problem.

Hi folks. I'm in negotiations for a 1994 Sea Ray 330 Sundancer and looking forward to ownership. This boat is a lot bigger than I've ever had and to be honest, I'm a bit intimidated. My current boat is a small walk around fishing boat with outboards. Do any of you have any advice, gotchas, things I should look for above and beyond the typical sea trial and survey with this boat?

Thanks in advance!

A good survey of every system is the best start. As for the intimidation, is it due to the size of the boat, if thats so don't let it be. I was scared to death of twins, inboards, and a true set of rudders. My SeaRay dealer, he walked me thru my boat, gave me plenty of time at the helm, even gave me the keys so I could practice on the upper James. When I brought her home...best boating day I ever had! The intimidation goes away with practice.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. In fact, one of my friends said that running with twins is pretty easy especially docking. We shall see and I'm looking forward to the challenge.

It is easier...much, but different. I found that before any maneuvering to the fuel dock or backing into a slip rudders must be centered. One of the members here told me something that worked the best, practice all the time and practice when no one is around at first (just slip neighbors) then practice when every weekend boater is there (distractions help some) let um rag on you, but remember it's your boat, not theirs! Your the Captain, take all the time you need to be safe and enjoy

I understand and used to worry a LOT about docking ... got made front of by some people because I went very slow docking but hey, I used fenders and never had any serious issues nor did I hurt anyone LOL. I'll ask the current captain to help me out for a few runs, especially when docking, so hopefully that will help out quite a bit.

Are you on the lower bay or upper? There's plenty of members that might help

Heh Guys,

i know I'm dragging up an old topic, but for those of you interested, I found a good LED match for the courtesy cockpit lights.
Mine is a 2006 and has the double contact bayonet type bulb. I found these for $7 each at Superbright LEDs.

Is everyone else's battery bank setup screwy with routing the cables over and under or under and over the battery handles? I'd like to see the cable ends set lower on the battery terminals but it's impossible with the battery straps there. Does anyone remove the straps?

Mine are similar to yours. I was able to push the handles of my Interstate battery down far enough to get the terminals low enough on the posts.

I have 3 BA15D led bulbs for the three cockpit sockets if anyone wants them. No cost. They are in warm white. Just PM me with your shipping address.

Hi everyone, I just purchased a 2006 300 DA and expecting delivery this Friday. looking forward to boating this summer!!!!
