If you take anything away from this blog take this: Allstate is the WORST insurer to deal with if you have a claim. Don't insure your boat with them, or anything else.

I adjust insurance claims for a living and speak from experience on this one.

I don't mean to hijack but I'm shopping insurance as well and thought this may be of some help.

NBOA: Bear in mind they are NOT an underwriter. They are a broker. Pay attention to which carrier they ultimately quote you with. In 2 days, I got these 2 quotes from 2 different agents at NBOA:

1) RLI $575
2) American Bankers Ins. $389.

These are with the same limits and coverages. I simply filled out the request twice. After getting the one for $575 I was reasonably happy because Allstate went to $800 for lesser coverage. Decided to complete the form again and got the second quote for $389. Ridiculous. Just goes to show you should re-evaluate coverage yearly.

Who are you going with Bill? I went with American Bankers Ins. through NBOA, 44k agreed for $346.

I went with State Farm to stay with the same agent I've used for years and because they have treated me very well in the past. I'm paying right at $400 a year for my 270 which I didn't think was too bad considering the coastal boating I do.

Like I said above, what people pay in Minnesota and CT is completely irrelevant. Yet, they keep telling you who to call...
