Going from a 26' Cuddy cabin to soon going to a 300 Sundancer, the finace company quoted some outrageous price. I am waiting for a quote from my current Insurance company. Who out there offers the best 30 - 33 ft cruiser rates? I saw a thread awhile back, but can't seem to find it.

Florida is a tough one. I have Middlesex Mutual they are fantastic, I had a near total loss claim many years ago. They were on location the next day gave me a repair or buyout option on the spot. I opted to fix, the adjuster was on location at least once a week monitoring progress and ensuring the use of genuine SR parts. Hindsight I should have taken the buyout it was replacement value and quite generous. Almost two years later I was still thinking the boat just was not the same although I could not put my finger on it. However MM never left my side and continued to pay for various procedures like shaft allignments and prop scans. I would never use anyone else, its not all about price but I did compare last year against several large popular insurers and MM was right in the middle. The most important things to me about insurance are 1. They need to be there 2. Service 3. Price. I didnt mention my agent was right there too, Smith Insurance 860-739-3322 if your interested call them. I have insured several million dollars worth of property for more than 20 years and would not use anyone else. Good luck.

** For the record it was not my current boat, the boat was sold with full disclosure.

My wife and I both work for State Farm (NOT in sales)- so we are biased. On the thread you could not find, the OP on that thread checked with State Farm (he already had his home and cars) and it beat NBOA and all the others by a big margin. People seem to forget State Farm is the largest insurer of boats and personal water craft in the country. Yet, all that being said, it all comes down to the indivdual and boat being insured.

Jeff-

Florida is tough- period.
Most of the companies others are going to name (except Boat US) do not write in Florida, and if they do, you can definitely ignore any rates they say they're paying if they're outside the state. They're irrelevant.

I'll send you a pm with contact info for a broker I use.

My insurance is a company called ACE USE out of Wilmington, DE. When I got a quote from my insurance company, State Farm, it was outrageous (Over 3,000!). They said they do very few boats over 30 feet and you need to find a company that specializes in Marine insurance. Currrently, I pay just over 800 for the year.

I pay ab out $800, National Marine Underwriters. They offer waiver of depreciation as well. I do not have it currently. $1k deductible, 300 liability and 36k replacement. that includes $100 for dinghy and motor and $250 towing. Boston, Ma

I've used Global Marine Ins. in Traverse City, MI on all my boats! Boats is all they do so it's what they are best at:smt001
Paying around $500.00 for my 320DA and Dinghy.

Wholly crap!!!!! I pay $413/yr for my 2006 $43,000 Four Winns 255 Cuddy Cabin, I'm getting quotes of $1995.76 to $1712.00/yr for a 2006 $79,990 300 Sundancer that we are purchasing.

I am not suprised, a lot of companies will not even write a boat in Florida or any property in FL for that matter. Sucks.:smt009 The losses down there broke a lot of companies and crippled more. Now there are fewer options and they are not cheap.

Jeff,

I live in central Florida and use Progressive. If you send me a PM, I can refer to my agent, who is able to get some discounts for safe boating courses, etc.

I have a 06 290DA and pay around $1,100/year. Most other companies were around $2K for this region.

Good Luck!

Consider taking a bigger deductible to lower your premium. Insurance should be for catastrophic losses not for bumps and bruises. Insure with a company that specializes in marine underwriting. There is a HUGE difference in how insurers handle claims.

The biggest difference comes from Fresh Water (inland) vs Salt Water. BOATUS insurance originally quoted me around $600/year when they thought I was boating inland only. When I changed the location to Intercoastal, my rate nearly TRIPLED!!!! So, all of you inland boaters, enjoy your low insurance rates!

I just got a quote from Global Marine Ins. and it was $604 instead of $814. They are out today on vacation so I did it in online. I want to send them my policy just to make sure I am not missing anything. I believe the winter layup, which National Marine Underwriters does not offer, is the possible root of most of the savings. They say they will have this next year. I will probably have to get some type of marine survey$$, so not sure if I wil switch or not. The deductible is lower and the medical, spill, and towing are all better. Thanks for the info and I will keep you posted on the outcome. Mark Helmsman Yacht is the carrier. Has anyone dealt with them? Comments??
