Well one of the last projects to do before I splash this week is to rewire all my alternators, batteries, batteries switch, and install a new battery charger. My main question is has anyone re-done theirs and found a better way to wire the battery switch to the 2 motors than the way they did it in the 70's. I will be installing a promariner 1240i battery charger.

thanks

I am kinda going throught this now and there are many different opinions on this. However I have found that it mainly comes down to personal requirements and what you use your boat for.

I.e. Do you have a generator and how long to you spend on the hook just on batteries ? seem to be the main issues.

Check my thread in the ELECTRICAL section headed GENERATOR BATTERY

I just redid mine.... it was a pita.

I'll be posting pictures later today with as good of an explanation as I can give.

I do not have a generator but i do hook out to either fish or party on a beach a few times a year. I would like to make the house battery seperate for when im on the hook. I do have 3 batteries.

I replaced mine with the 1240I back in Feb or Mar of '08. I wired the charger to each individual battery.

Since then I have replaced one of the group 27's I used as the house side with 6V batteries.
The monitor is really nice to see how everything is charging along.

Looks good i want to do them individually but my house batteries off of my starboard motor are banked with 2 batteries. I want to make them all individual with option to group or seperate with a switch.

You can do that with the charger connected to individual battery switches. Good luck.
