My new to me 04’ 300 DA the shifters for F N R are kind of stiff . . . During the winter I will replace the cables and etc but for now what’s the best way to get them to loosen up a little, it’s usable but I can tell it’s not as smooth as it should be.

Thanks.

Nick

You can lubricate the rod portion of the cables on the engine side - probably won't help much, but can't hurt. There is the upper shift cable that runs from the shifter and the lower shift cable that goes to the outdrive. Most likely the stiffness is in the lower shift cable - I have replaced several lower shift cables, usually when you do the bellows - I have never replaced the upper cable.

Figure out where the stiffness is from - lower or upper cable. Then remove, attach a short length of tight fitting hose and secure it. Then fill with oil and force the air through with an air compressor. Short of replacing, that's about the best you can do.

Thank you sir will do that

Hello everyone! New to forum. Just purchased 2006 - 300 sundancer with stiff throttle cables. Can anything be done short of replacing to loosen up?

Ummm... did you read every post in this thread? ;)

Thanks Lazy - yes read them but just wasn’t sure if there was something more specific to the 2006 model.

Pretty much... a cable is a cable is a cable :) Cable's don't know what boat they are on.
