Ok guys,

I had my boat hauled today and I'm having a few things done. I also have some time off and a key to the yard where the work is being done. I have this nagging feeling that there are some things I can be doing while the boat is out of the water for a few days that I'm not even thinking of. Here is what we are doing:

Bottom paint
Compound, buff and many coats of wax
Re-glass gel-coat on swim-platform (due to a couple of dings)
Replace some scratched areas of striping

Props are new last season and show no dings scratches etc.

Can you think of something that is easier/better to do now while I'm out of the water than when she is re-launched?

BTW received my new burlwood dash from Vector Imaging yesterday and it looks perfect. I'm taking pics of that project and highly recommend it so far.

Water level is coming up here on Lake Lanier, keep your fingers crossed, we might survive this yet...

Check your zincs. Replace if 50% or less.

Check your through hulls...sides and bottom. Just visual inspection to make sure they are intact.

Give the outdrive a good visual inspection. If concerned, have mechanic look at it.

Visual check of trim tabs and cylinders.

zincs, that's one of ten I probably forgot. Isn't there a difference in the material I should use. I am in Fresh vs. Salt Water. I might just replace them anyway, but I swear they are three years old and don't look near 50% worn.

Check your trim tabs and speedo. Check all of your transom screws.

Make sure you grease the sea cocks while the boat's out of the water. Might want to inspect the bellows and shift cables while getting a stern drive service too?

I second the inspection of all through hull bolts and screws. If you see rust trails, they need t be backed out and retightened with new 5200. If you have stern drives check the bellows.

Pressure wash then inspect the hull for blisters....a '95 in fresh water is old enough to start showing some blistering.

Check your cutlass bearings....once again, your boat is old enough to see some wear showing up.

Since I did read your entire initial post, I'm not going to tell you to inspect/service your outdrive or the bellows on a v-drive boat .

Guys, he has V drives....I don't know the how and when's but would think you should have the shaft packings and the bearings inspected while the boat is out of the water.

If your bilge is a little grimy, maybe a soapy rinse of the bilge is in order too...

estebanj is right on with change over to magnesium annodes. Do you haul your boat each spring? Change over to magnesium may require an annual inspection as they may wear more depending on your conditions.

5200??? I plan to re-seat the bolts on my swim platform and I do see a few have some rust streaking. What is the 5200?? Where is it available? Cost is irrelevant

5200 is a polyurethane adheasive / sealant made by 3M Co. It can be had at about any marine retailer...West Marine and the like. It is good shtuff...

Thanks to all on the advice. This is a little late but apparently I am not automatically subscribed to posts I start.

Zincs were/are magnesium and are not worn enough to replace. Probably should have re-done bottom paint but it was far from needing to be redone. Biggest amount of work was gelcoat on swim platform. Getting the color and surface to match non skid is an art. Kudos to Boatmasters on matching both. The holes from a previous owners dinghy davits can barely be noticed.

Photos to follow...
