30' Weekender Dinette Cushions

We are removing all cushions to get reupholstered. I am curious why the aft back cushion is hinged? Also, whn made up for sleeping, the cushions that go on the table top slide all over. Any clever solutions?

I put hook loop side of Velcro on the table and this keeps the cushion from sliding. Just use the type of velcro with tape on the back of it.
