I’m considering a couple boats one a 230 cc the other a 240cc neither have a trailer.

A shipper quoted me $1800 for a 600mi run “...including everything...”. Not sure what other side charges there might be both are 8’6 beams so no special permits needed, perhaps tolls?

Sounded high to me but not sure.

Thoughts?

one word: U-Ship
I have moved the 370 twice through them, and a pair of engines from Sacramento Ca to Sarasota Florida.

I have been out of trailering for a while. How much would a trailer be? Might be worth doing yourself.

If you have a tow vehicle, that’s a great idea. Even if you don’t want the trailer you could buy a good used one on one end and sell it on the other. Good trailers usually sell pretty fast.
Regarding the $3.00 a mile: that may not be too far out of line when you add up the guys time, fuel, wear and tear on his vehicle, insurance, etc.

$3.00 is cheep. I paid $3295.00 to move my boat from Atlanta, GA to Charleston, WV. It was a 320 so 4 states worth of wide load permits.

Yes but a 230cc or 240cc is all of 4000lbs soaking wet. The beam is only 8’6. Your boat is far more valuable and beamy. I wish I could skipper a 320 or 340.

I considered it believe me.

Actually I drive a Ford Expedition 4x4 w V8 and trailer tow option. She’s older and has mikes but is pristine and runs perfectly.

If I can rent a good trailer I think my trucks tow capacity is 6500 lbs. I’ll double check the tow capacity.

El Capitan, in both areas you have listed for residences you should be able to find someone with a trailer you can rent, then rent a tow vehicle from Hertz or Budget.
Check around local marinas to see who has a boat on a trailer right now that hasn't been put in the water yet and see if they'll rent it to you once they splash the boat.

Or see if they are interested in making the trip with you if you pay all the expenses and give them some cash for their trouble.

Never tried to rent a boat trailer, but it might be worth looking in to. If you can’t find one to rent you can probably pick up a good used one on Craigslist and then sell it when you’re finished with it. I just listed a small PWC trailer on there this past weekend and sold it quickly.
Another upside is that most boat insurance policies, and a Boat US membership, will also cover your trailer in the event of an unforeseen mishap on the 600 mile trip.
When all is said and done you may save yourself a boat buck or more if you just trailer the boat yourself.

You are on the right path, much easier to learn first go big second. We are on boat #7 after 35 years of boating. Good luck with your quest.

I deleted my previous reply because it was off base and assumed 2 boats due to inept morning reading and inaccurate for the same reason regarding math skills. I think it's a fair price though and the costs of owning a rig with 10 000 lb. Tow capacity is not inexpensive. Remember the trailer weighs something as well and I personally would not push more than 80% tow capacity on a run that long. The shipper also insures the load has to drive home after . Feed his family and buy boat gas and bait to take his own family out . I always pay people a little better than they ask and feel good about it. The reward is knowing someone made a loveable wage and didn't have to cut corners to satisfy my bottom line. The person will be driving 1200 miles all told unless he is lucky and organized a load coming home.
