290 sundancers 1994-midyear 97 "We need a thread"

Thx guys. The canvas is only 2 years old. The zipper part is great for easy access. All the edges have velcro on them to hide the zippers and help keep water out. It was a major reason why I bought the boat. I couldn't believe how much he paid for all the canvas! Learning quick that owning a boat can get crazy expensive.
I don't have many pics of the boat yet, but once the shrinkwrap comes off, I'll take some more photos.

We were in Puerto Vallarta 2nd time never felt unsafe. Back to Key West Feb. 2013 for my 50th.

We found a 1995 290 with the twin 4.3 setup and only 364 hours on her this January! Haven't had a sea trial of course (located in upstate NY) but escrow funds are being held until that is complete. The boat is in great shape but should I be concerned about the boat not being used enough? It is in excellent shape, no bottom paint ac or genset.

AC is a must for me.

Mine is 1997 and has ~900 hours and gets used quite a bit. I wouldn't worry about the 364 hours; the overall level of upkeep would be more important to me. If you plan on overnighting at the dock (which we do) AC would be a must but with no gen AC can't be used away from dock so not needed then.

The one question I have been asking all over and have yet to get an answer, on a 1995 290 where in the world have you guys mounted your flat screen tv's.

I put mine in the salon and added a second mount in the cockpit. Two photos below:

Good luck on the boat rhodenhome! I don't have the A/C or genset either. Frankly not sure where it would fit since the engine compartment is super tight.
I wonder how hard and at what cost is it to add an aftermarket A/C unit? I plan on overnight stays at the Marina. Guess I'll find out if it's a must have for me this summer.
The weather here in Detroit is amazing! 70 degrees all week! I just replaced all the Zincs. Thank God the props slipped right off. Shrinkwrap removal t-minus 2 days. Next weekend the bottom paint project and outdrive fluid change. Why am I looking forward to all this work?

Sadler, you have no idea how much you just helped us out. We were trying to find the perfect spot for the tv and we were torn. Please, I am a do it yourself er how did you route the power to the tv? Dying to know. Your install in the salon looks very clean and we are trying to do the same thing.
Troy- enjoy your boat as well, it was terrible for us to purchase in the dead of an upstate NY winter with no hope of a sea trial. Should be a couple of weeks and we are out making the deal final. Enjoy your work and keep us posted. I will have to get some pictures up this weekend, supposed to be 65 and sunny!

Yea, I anguished over where to put the tv as well. Glad this helped out a bit. The only disadvantage to putting it where I did, is that if you stand up while sitting under the TV, you can hit your head on the TV. Not a big deal since very few people sit there, but just thought I'd mention that. As for wiring, see this thread where I discuss what I did. http://clubsearay.com/showthread.php/49529-Adding-an-outlet-to-a-1995-290DA?p=557338#post557338 Read the whole thread (it's short) because there are some good comments from a couple of people. Bottom line, buy an AC/DC HD TV (preferably with built in DVD player) and just run the 12 VDC line from under the dash through a hole that you drill to the back of the TV. You can also run the antenna wire the same way. If you're interested, I'll tell you my almost free mount that I made for the cockpit TV mounting. We actually use that as much as the mount in the salon. Good luck!

Time,

If I could get a little more info on the new throttle / shift controls you installed. Model # and did you have to change the cables?

Jeff

I will try to get a model #. I did have all the cables replaced. It is some of the BEST money I have spent on the boat. Made a HUGE difference.

Any of you guys replaced the sliding cabin door hardware. I launched yesterday and went to close the door and the bottom track basically just separated from the door.

For anyone with a single engine, have you built/bought something to use the open space in engine compartment for storage. I am afraid of little stuff getting tossed around, but was thinking about installing the wire fender holders to store extra fenders and mounting some kind of box to hold extra stuff we only use 1x2 per season

Got the boat in the water finally and the shift/throttle controls were super stiff! Made it really tough to feel if I was engaged or in neutral while trying to dock. My right arm got sore after awhile from wrestling with those shifters. Any suggestions or advice on how to handle this issue would be greatly appreciated.

I'd disconnect the cable at the engine end and see if the friction is from there or somewhere on the way back. It sounds like there's a kink or something pinching a cable. Might also be in the new throttle you put in as well. Maybe disconnect from there and see how the throttle/shifter works. But, then you may have tried all of these already.

The web site for the controls says there is a drag adjustment. Im sure you checked this already but....
