we have seen this boat however we cannot remember what the mid-cabin looked like. i have looked at brochures etc and no pictures of the mid are shown. anyone out there have pictures of the mid-cabin? any thoughts on this model compared to the 300 or 320? we'd really appreciate pics if you have them. we are contemplating upgrading from a rinker fv 265. love the 320, but with gas prices, we want to be able to do more than just in the slip and admire the boat!!!! thanks much, stan.

great pics dwayne

thanks for that link. is there storage under the mid-cabin mattress? can the cushion be removed? is there a table that can be used there?

i know alot of questions, but the "admiral" is asking me all these and i don't have the answers. thanks for all feedback, i really appreciate it.

my thoughts are to get a boat bigger than our present rinker, yet not so big that fuel and maintenance become an issue. our froeinds have a 320, we've been to the pump with them, $400 is a lot of $$$$ for a weekend of fun!!!!

again thanks.

290

i have an 06 290. the mid cabin is a crawl in with no table.there is room enough for two to sleep but it is not like the 320 where you can sit in the daytime.
so far the fuel economy is not horrible but i usually just put around at 1200rpm.bring her up at wot and you can see that guage move.i have the t5.0 bravo3 package but i do like this boat.
the new design is getting a lot of attention on the lake. if you have any other questions about the 290 then fire away.
the 290 is not very popular against the 280 but this boat came my way so i bought it.

My Take

i believe the mid-cabin has better access to it. the 280 has a crawl space the right of the steps, whereas the 290 it is basically in the same location as the 300 and 320. i think the layout is better. and at least there is a seat, i think they call it the conversation seat, on the 290 where the 280 doesn't have a seat across from the helm at all.

sure would love to see more pics and hear what 290 owners have to say. thanks.

my 06 290 has now been used a few months.when i was at the toronto boat show they had a 280 and 290 very close to each other so comparisons were easy.
the mid-cabin has easier access on the 290 and a cockpit fridge was also an option on the 290.the layout is quite different on deck and the openness is nice.my dash was also able to squeeze a c-80 into it and although they only offer a c-70 as an option, the chartplotter was easy to install.
go to sea-ray.com for pictures of the 2 different boats. there isn't much of a price difference between them when i was shopping for a leftover or early trade.
i would also like to see if there are other new style 290 owners out there.

But forgot to mention that the two that sleep in the mid cabin must be "little folks" .
My Amberjack 290 has a similar setup, and we use it to stow unassigned life jackets and canvas.

thanks for that info. question, how do you like your 290? pros/cons?

assume you are a marine, thanks for your service. i am a 24 year retired infantry first sergeant US Army. served with the corp '64 - '68, 'nam 65-66. hoo-aah

Tawcat,

The Amberjack 290 is a very nice boat. It is just for the wife and I and it still seems pretty small. With the Mag Horizion V-drives, the engine room is very cramped which makes it difficult to do routine maintenance.

Moondancer gets up on plane quickly and rides very nice. We had to replace the original Sea Ray supplied horm as it sounded more like a "farting frog" than a maritime signal to alert and respond to others plying the waterways.

We are planning a one day fishing trip this friday and we are really looking forward to it. We plan on upgrading to a larger boat around the end of next year's boating season (need the time to save our pennies).

I am a retired navy Chief Radioman (Submarine Service) and spent a couple of years running the rivers and hugging the coast in 'Nam from 65-70. I retired after 20 years of service in January 1978.

thanks for that info. we really like the 300 except for the cockpit layout. so i guess maybe we will continue the quest for either liking the 300 or moving all the way up to a 320!

We really liked the openess of the mid-cabin on the 300DA. We had been on a couple of 320DA's...and loved how open the cabin felt....and then looked at a 300DA....and it had the same "open" feeling at the 320 and 340 (although on a smaller scale).....but for alot less money.

bottom line

thanks for the feedback. we really like the 300, but the wife doesn't like the fact that there is no lounge seat like the 320 across from the helm.
