Does anyone know how to do a master reset on the SmartCraft SC5000? My SmartCraft had a memory loss (I guess due to power loss?) and it only shows 1 motor and only 1/2 the analog gauges work. Fuel gauge is out also.

resetting will not "bring motors" back
unit had been reset and this is a reason why you "lost motor"
you need manually set everything back or find someone with same boat and engines and download his settings to usb stick (there is usb connector on back of your unit) and transfer to your boat.
once you do that keep that usb stick for backup

This is a SmartCraft SC5000 with 3.45 SW that came factory installed on the 2005 290 SLX (no DTS). Where would the USB connector be located (can't find in owners manual or install manual) and if I find someone that can transfer settings to a USB stick - do I just plug it in? I guess the other option is to take it to a Mercury dealer - would be a pain. Do you have any clue why this unit would rest in the first place? My original thought was if I could do a manual reset I could get back to the original install screen and set up the motors and other calibrations.

Thanks sfergson727. I will also double check the connections - still can't imagine why it reset - could a power loss do it?

I don't believe there is a USB port on the back of the SC5000, or at least there isn't one on the unit I retro-fitted last year. There is a key combination, that is not in the user manual, that will reset the SC5000. This will return the unit to a first installation state. I also have it written down and it is one the boat......I got the info to do this by calling Mercruiser and speaking with one of the techs. If you do do a complete reset you will have to re-calibrate, things like tanks, and trim.

The reset Scott just outlined puts the SC system back into first startup mode. It should sense how many engines you, and whether they are sterndrives, or v drives.

Are your 'dead' gauges all for the missing engine? As for the gas gauge, the tank senders are wired through the engine harness, so it is possible the dead fuel gauge is also connected to the dead engine. My thought is to check all of the connections. I would start with the ER. The simplest 2 engine wiring layout calls for a harness coming off each engine to go into a junction box. I would check the junction box connection for the 'missing' engine, followed by the connection between the harness running from the junction box to the main harness on the missing engine.

Thanks guys!!!! Yes the dead gauges are for the missing engine (I assume fuel gauge is on that connection path side of missing engine). I did a pretty thorough sweep of the wiring connections and they seem pretty tight - nothing obvious - most connectors have the lock latches - I will double check again. I am still puzzled what caused it. I have the install manual for the SmartCraft so I should know right away when I put in 2 engines if it takes it. Good news is the boat has been runnng great - but I really need gauges - especially fuel. If nothing works I guess I will take it to a Mercury dealer for a re-program.

I had the same thing happen on my 240 (only a single obviously) and the dealer had me do the reset proceedure Scott posted. If it works, you are good to go. If it doesn't, like mine, then the ECM is most likely bad, like mine:smt009. That's an $1,800 fix, so I hope it's not the case for you....Good luck.

Oh yeah - post your boat's info in your signature, it will help people to answer your questions.

You may need to unplug the plugs and look into the plug to see if there is any crud, or corrosion. If it is a bad plug you can fix it easily enough and save yourself the aggravation of re-calibtrating everything.

Thanks! I will be back at the lake next weekend to try all the possible remedies.
