Fellow boaters,
I was able to use a chain fall with a sling to lift my engine hatch cover. I checked the Aft EIM breakers to make sure they did not trip when the trim tab motor somehow got stuck on and knock the starboard control panel out. At first, I thought that this would have just burned the fuse plug going to the trim tabs. I used a 12V test light to make sure that I had power going into the AFT EIM panel and that checked positive. I checked a couple of other plugs that appeared to be going out from the bottom of the AFT EIM and they checked positive as well. I then proceeded with removing the screws out of the EIM panel to remove the cover. Once, I removed the screws, I thought that the cover would just pop right off like the helm forward EIM. I was wrong in making that assumption, for it appeared that some type of gray JB weld or a product of the same type was applied around the cover making it impossible to remove. I am not sure whether this was done to make it explosion proof, keep moisture out or keep out a self-doer as myself, etc. Does anyone know whether this is normal for it to come from the manufacture like this, since it is in the aft engine compartment? If so, one would have to replace the aft EIM panel should a fuse go bad in it. Any thoughts or comments?
