have searched the forum and failed to come up with an answer. Looking at early to mid 2000’s 290 amberjack and have struggled to find info on the midberth size. Do any of you have dimensions or pics of the midberth with either adults or kiddos in it? Just trying to gauge available size.

Thanks,
Scott

It's shockingly small. I tried it out and it was too short for me. I'm 5'10".

Thanks for the feedback. I have girls in the 5' 4" range...think it is too small for one of them?

Appreciate it!

They may be just OK, if they don't get bigger. Look at the photos on this listing on Yacht World and you'll see what I mean about the short mid-berth.

I really wanted to like the 290 interior layout but just couldn't. All the sleeping spaces were off for me. The mid cabin was too short for my wife and I. The v-berth is on an angle; due to the curve of the hull one side is really short and the hanging locker forward of the dinette blocks your legs from hanging off. One of use would have had to detach our legs to sleep in it together. The dinette converts to a berth but it seemed like it would be too short for my kids within a couple years. All the way around it was too small for us. Plus with the standard bait station / livewell I would have lost cockpit seating vs. my current layout. And I would have had a 2nd engine with the extra maintenance. If the sleeping arrangements had been better I could have been OK with the last 2 items. It just ended up being to many ticks in the minus column for my particular objectives.

If you like the boat I would suggest to try to find one locally and see if the spaces work for you.

The 290 AJ has a 10'6" beam; I'd love to know what the heck Sea Ray put behind the bulkheads on either end of the mid-berth to make it so short.

Fuel tanks I believe

There are fuel tanks on each side of the mid cabin thats why it seems short. I am 5’11” and can sleep under there diagonal across the bed. There is definitely enough space for kids under there. The forward berth is okay size. This winter im removing the side cushions that wrap around the berth and applying upholstery to match the surrounding area. That will give an extra 6-10” of sleeping space side to side on the bed. The bait station is an easy fix. I cut ours down so it now doubles as seating and a livewell with storage. Only thing we lost was the sink there.

Love your idea!
