280 Sundancer Starboard Panel Problems (2004)

Hello all,

I have been experiencing a problem with starboard instrument panel that operates stereo, anchor, nav lights etc. No buttons work. I have disconnected the panel and re-connected it and all the lights come on for a brief second indicating that it is getting power.

Did some troubleshooting and found 1 of 3 batteries dead. Replaced the battery and still no function on the panel. Also notice that the marine converter/charger stays at 0 on the meter indicating dead battery when on shore power. Although both engines do start on 1 and/or 2 batteries while off shore power so batteries aren't the problem.

Has anyone experienced problems with starboard panel? Need help desperately.

Thanks in advance,
Chris

Chris,

The dash panels on the 280 work in conjunction with what Sea Ray termed as Electronic Interface Modules (EIM). The EIMs combine the functionality of a relay and circuit breaker in one box. The switchpads are networked to the EIM. If a lot of things are not working on a single switchpad there is a good possibility that the EIM may be bad. The starboard EIM on the 280 is located under the engine control in the little cubby. The port EIM is located on the port side ER above the batteries.

I also understand from my dealer those switch pads are no longer available. :wow:

I don't know what folks are supposed to do if one of them goes bad.:huh:

they are still available and it usually is the eim box, the dash pad or there is a small junction box that all of the dash pads plug into that could be bad. I just had a 300 dancer where that piece was no good and it caused the same problem. on the 300 the box was behind the speaker under the controls on stb side. I think on the 280 da it is screwed to the side under the dash. The piece is about 3 inches by 4 inches and have about 5 spots where you can plug into. it has the same plugs that is on the back of the dash panels. Also make sure you plug in to the same spots that you took it out of.

that piece I was talking about is about $150 allot cheaper than the rest. I would start there. or if you have a friend with the same boat see if you can borrow it.

Thanks guys. I was hoping it would be something simple other that the EIM.

The small junction box that was a problem on the 300, is that separate from the EIM? The EIM on the 280 is under the shift control. Dont recall seeing a junction box though.

According to the dealers, Sea ray has discontiued the original part number. It took a little investigating and if anyone needs to replace the starboard instrument panel, the replacement part number is 181026.

DId you ever figure out if this problem was in the switch padf or the EIM as I have just starte having the same problem over the weekend?
