What is the maximum number of people that can be brought on this boat and still achieve plane with no problem? I would like to bring 6 adults(2 guys 4 gals) and 2 kids out this coming weekend. I am powered by twin 4.3 alphas. Is the maximum occupancy and weight listed somewhere in the boat? If so where?

280DA’s are NMMA yacht certified, a.k.a. the plate will not list a passenger count. Once you are in a NMMA yacht certified vessel you are no longer required to have a cockpit area seat for each passenger.

Barring you storing lead bricks and the for mentioned passengers are sumo wrestlers and you have changed factory spec propellers for high pitch racing propellers you should not have an issue getting on plane in not more then 10 or 11 seconds.

Keep the drives tucked in (full down) and consider adding a little tab (little being the key)

On this boat, capacity can be determined using the old formula L x W / 15 = maximum passenger count. L = length of the hull rounded down to the full number and W = width rounded down to the full number. Count again gets rounded down. So the 280DA would be 28’ 6†L rounded to 28 then 9’5†rounded down to 9. 28 x 9 / 15 = 16.8. You can not have .8 passengers so again this is rounded down to 16.

16 people on a 280DA? Ha! Lose the formula and use common sense. I had 8 people once on my 300DA and you couldn't turn around without bumping into someone. Could they physically fit on? Yes. Can you operate the boat safely with that many bodies on board?

I was referring to legal maximum capacity. I was not taking into consideration comfort. My apology if I did not make this clear.

16... no problem. squeeze 3 in the aft bunk, 4 in the dinette, 6 around the berth table, 1 on the toilet. that's 14 just in the cabin.

1 at the helm, 3 on the lounge seat, 2 on the other seat thing, 3 on the back seat and 2 standing.

As long as no one moves or has to go to the bathroom.... wait.... no one going to the bathroom..... now that sounds good.

6 should be no problem getting on plane.

getting back to the original question your load of 6 adults and 2 kids... the boat should plane just fine..... to make it plane quicker... you will need to use a bit of tab like Presentation mentioned. Have fun!!

Hi,

Not sure if it's of any use, but in the UK and Europe all boats need to be CE approved. As part of the approval a plate has to be visible listing the maximum occupancy and luggage weight at which point the vessel becomes unstable. My 280 (315 in the UK) is plated as having a maximum occupancy of 8 Adults plus just over 100kg of luggage.

Ian.

I have had 8 folks onboard.... everything went very well..... the difference between 8 and just the wife and I onboard.... is I actually have to use a little tab :smt001

or make someone run down to the cabin to bring the front end down to plane quicker.
