Our 2002 Sundancer is kept in the water 12 months a year in a large fresh water lake. The boat has bottom paint that is 3-4 years old. There is a little slime here and there, but nothing else is on the bottom. The paint "feels" like it's still in good shape and other than along the stern water line (where it has been scrubbed to get the moss off) you can't see any gelcoat showing through. I've been told I should re-paint the bottom every 4 years or so to protect the bottom from developing blisters and to keep growth off. I've also been told the only thing bottom paint is going to help is keeping stuff off the bottom. I know blisters can be a problem on some boats, others never experience them. I've also been told a good power washing is what I should do. I want to follow the correct process and I'm looking for input on what experience others might be willing to share.
Thanks!

If the paint seems good it will be a simple task and inexpensive to paint. Basically a gallon of bottom paint (that's all I used this spring), a roll of blue tape, throwaway roller and pan, and some sandpaper.

Pull the boat, wash and let dry. Tape perimeter, and scuff with sandpaper 80-120 grit. A sheetrock sanding pad on a stick works great. All you need to do is knockdown any loose stuff and two hours later you are done. Total cost about $ 150.00. Cheap insurance for the longevity of your boat.
