280 outdrive corrosion

I agree, he is happy and he should be... but I know that if in my company was to tell customers 'not covered under warranty and we are not covering it' and they had to call back many many times (again not my words here) to get it repaired they would not come back and use my services or products. Especially if after getting the information I discovered it was our problem and we did do something wrong, it makes us look like idiots.

Why does it not make SeaRay look like idiots?

Don't get me wrong, I think SeaRay's are a great boat, no boat is perfect, but when there is a problem I don't want to have to continually make phone calls and badger them into fixing something they should have taken responsibility for 3 months ago.

What I am saying is, get the facts then make a determination of whom is to fix the problem. Again, this comes down to BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE......

What happens if you buy a new MAC and in 2 months the battery dies (hey things happen right). You call for replacement and they nope...not gonna do it. You call and call and call and call, finally you get a battery after 3 months. You gonna buy another MAC, probably not....BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Look stories like this are why SeaRay is loosing customers. I am not saying they didn't step up to the plate and took care of a problem....excellent job SeaRay......what I am saying is the way in which it took place. I am sure he lost some hair and sleep worrying about his 2007 basically new boat and it should have been done differently.

They make a rash decision to not repair something before they had all the information relevant to the case. They were hoping he just went away and didn't have to fork out the bucks to fix his boat.

It is not that I am hard to please, just sick and tired of big corporate America screwing over the little guy by tying things up in red tape or worse yet just ignoring his problems until he gets so pesky that they say 'ok we will fix the problems we caused'.

I agree with alot of the comments. If the economy wasn't so bad, maybe i wouldn't have had so much trouble. I am just glad it is over.

Congratulations. In the end you got what you wanted.

Sea Ray does in fact have a 3 year corrosion warranty on new boats. I had my BIII's replaced after 4 years, albeit with a lot of documentation back and forth. After the "hull potential" test (paid for by Merc) it was determined that the MerCathodes were not operating, thus the drive housing replacement. I now have 2 MerCathodes on each engine, which is "suggested" in a relatively new MerCruiser Tech Bulletin. I agree strongly with Frank that I would suspect a bonding wire issue. I would also make sure that all the anodes were the same. I see you're in Lancaster PA. If you boat in fresh water, you should have aluminum anodes. Some suggest magnesium in fresh water, but Merc says aluminum. In salt, they should be zinc.

Boatzincs.com recommends magnesium in fresh water. They will degrade faster than aluminum but will provide better protection. To make sure for an individual situation I'd shoot them an email or give them a call with your boating details and they will recomend the best solution. And no I am not associated with them, just have had great experience working with them.

I've used magnesium in fresh water since the day the boat was new...replace them each year, and have no visible corrosion on either drive after 3 seasons.
