What is the "proper way" to run the transom shower on a 280 sundancer? What I mean is if you have a hose connected to the back for freshwater should the water pump accessory switch on the dashboard be on or off? For the shower, faucets, etc they say when hooked up to shore water to keep it off. What about the transom shower?

Also the force of the water from the transom shower head seems intermittent and weak most of the time. Any tips on improving the strength? Thanks

transom shower is part of water system, there is no separate switch for that.

Some boats, like mine, have the optional raw water wash down in the transom locker beside the fresh water wash down. There is an accessory switch at the helm that powers the raw water pump. When powered, the raw water pump activates on demand. The fresh water pump also operates on demand.

There is a separate transom shower built into the gunwale. This one has hot and cold knobs. The shower head has a separate on/off button. Water pressure should be full on when you turn the knobs. If you have no pressure at the shower head, then either the button is not pushed all the way, or the hose has a kink in it inside the gunwale. I needed to unscrew and remove the whole assembly to get to the kink in mine.

Could be a kink as others have said.

Did you try to operate the chrome button on the handle both ways? After you turn on the water you must press that "extra" button or the water only comes out about 5% power

I tried pulling the hose out as far as I could without actually opening up the shower - could not see a kink but I guess farther into the assembly could be one. I tried operating it with the button pushed in either direction no drastic improvements. I guess I need to open up the assembly and see if there is a kink further down. Thanks

Definately a kink. The hose is long so if you are pulling it out and only have a couple feet then it's kinked. I had this problem with mine when I first bought it. I had to get to it from the anchor locker (3 screws) and then it worked fine.

As Buckit said, make sure you access this by removing the panel in the transom locker. I believe there is also a filter screen between the nozzle and hose that could be clogged.

Unscrew the whole shower head from the hose first and then operate the shower. If water still dribbles out then you have a kinked hose or some other obstruction. If it rushes out then the problem is with the head. BTW, ours does not flow very hard thru the head when we use it either.

The nozzle head clogs very easily. There is a machine screw right in the center unscrew that and the whole thing comes apart. There really isn't a screen to it. The had is made up of two rings and a disc. The rings and disc have grooves on the edges so when they are turned the grooves align (or not) creating a passageway for the water. These clog.

One other thing you could check. Mine had a "flap" of plastic left in it where the hole through the handle intersected the opening for the head. I took a drill bit and ran it in by hand to clean the hole out and the flow increased dramatically.

Does the transom shower always leak water with the cold water valve turned on and the switch on the shower handle in the off position? I've been on numerous boats (non SeaRays) where it's dry until you hit the switch on the shower handle. Mine always leaks water so I have to turn the cold water off everytime.

As far as I can tell you should be turning off the valves every time. Every one of those handles that I have seen leaks when the water valve is left on.

It has been my assumption that the button on the handle is more of a "temporary off" for passing the handle around. Kind of like kinking a hose. Don't know if the button is supposed to seal it off 100% but if it is, they must have a high rate of failures.

I believe the replacement is about $35 at Heatercraft.com
